Location: Ft Collins, CO | Earlier I incorrectly associated Cat Stevens with the 1624 Country Artist. That's been cleared up for me but I'm still wondering which Ovations are best set up for classical nylon strings? This is my wish list requirements:
Classical Strings
14 Frets to the bout, cutaway would be fine
Wider, but not classical, fingerboard
American Ovation Solid Top
Am I missing something? I mean I guess you could possibly put classical strings on ANY slot head Ovation with the traditional bridge & saddle set up. But is that done??
A bit of a side note . . . I picked up a GC 1627 a few months ago and I'm having a heck of a time keeping it in its case. It keeps creeping out and finding its way into my hands . . . . ALL THE TIME. I have a few other instruments and have never experienced the "relationship" I'm developing with this one. Anyway, I'm hoping to find a similar experience fingerpicking. Thus the desire for the more classical-esque axe. But not classical . . . I have a nice classical.
Your 2 cents is appreciated.

Location: Jet City | FYI, last I looked Al had one of these at Lost Art Vintage. If you call quick, there might still be time to 2-day ship it to yourself in time for it to be under the tree... Just sayin' The 6773Lx is a favorite here with me and all my buddies. It's usually one of the first ones grabbed. It's inspired me to work on my finger picking again. I'm at a good 99.98% with Petite Etude now (Rik Emmett)... really i have it down, just working on picking up the speed. I really do love the guitar. It plays like a dream. I had been trying to finger out that song for decades, she was the biggest part in me finally nailing it.

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | The 6773 LX was my favorite Ovation nylon. The only reason I don't have one now is because of my custom 1713-X, and even with that, I still get to jonesing for another CA occasionally. |

Location: Jet City | I doubt it matters much on the EA guitars. The tops don't move much, they're designed to be plugged in. Really they're chambered solid bodies. Not much sound unplugged.
If you're plan is to use 'em plugged in only, they're probably the most comfortable to play. I have a standard six steel string, I'm not sure what the nut size is on the nylons, maybe Noah could educate us. |
