Anyone seen one or had the opportunity to play? At 5K it is way out of my price range.

Al says you can place an order for one.

I dunno if they're released or even built yet. I spoke with the Ovation PM in July and he didn't know if any were going to be ready to show by August, so...

Al's the dude to ask.

For that much dough I would expect a real hand-laid bowl, not one made from SMC.

According to the specs, it is a hand-laid bowl.

That's a damn fine looking guitar. Lots of handwork and very nice woods and materials. Looks like they paid attention to all the little details, too. I really want to see and play one of these in person ... and at a street price of probably $3500, it's well positioned pricewise with what I'd expect a limited edition from any other make with this level of features and quality.

my honest opinion is I like 'em, but don't understand the bridge pins.... UNLESS they change the bridge/saddle as well, which means a different pickup system.

Imagine if they licensed Takamine's pickup and did a split saddle for a special model, that would be something I might save up for. OOOOH! And the Cooltube too!

A Takavation? Ovatiomine?

Probably one of the better guitars Ovation has ever built, but ...

This guitar has ZERO chance of appealing to any serious buyer of a mid to upper range wooden box guitar, the ilk of Taylor, Collings, Guild, Foggy, H&D, Martin, etc. I applaud Ovation for taking a chance and making something outside the typical mold. But this will sink into the same abyss as the other aborted attempts to go up-market.

It MAY (and probably WILL) appeal to Ovation fans wanting to stretch the roundback budget a bit. That's great if it can prevent them from wandering off into the wooden box guitar market. Good for Ovation. But converting those already converted is not a sustainable business model, and 10 guitars no matter WHO you sold them to isn't going to move the barometer one iota.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the correction. That makes the price a little more reasonable.

I was reading from the Overview page which says,

Contour Bowl
Made from glass-microsphere impregnated Lyrachord® composite, Ovation’s Contour Bowl is designed to provide maximum acoustic response with the feel of a small-body instrument. Sculpted to fit the contour of the player’s anatomy, the lightweight Lyrachord® GS body...

I think you nailed it. It may be leaps and bounds ahead others in its price range but if Ovation does not put it in stores it will not sell.

Beautiful look on this one. I'm curious if anyone is considering picking up one of these. They are heading into the same competitive price range with the custom Fenders. That's some tough competition at that level of pricing.

Of course 10 guitars won't move the needle, that's not the intention. It's not a production run and they'll all probably be special ordered by individuals and I'd be surprised if more than a couple of them makes it to a music store wall.

I am glad to see they are looking to move the brand in a new direction though and haven't simply consigned Ovation to be being a mid priced Korean import.

For the most part, I really like it. The headstock is interesting as is the soundhole and inlays etc. I guess with having the Fender custom shop up there means that there's plenty of exotic and interesting woods lying around. I don't like the pinned bridge with the O pickup, it looks a little strange. It'll be interesting to see what else they come up with.

Hopefully they'll be able to do what Takamine have done with the new Pro Series, it's been a real shot in the arm for the brand. The new guitars sound spectacular and are popping up in a lot of music stores again.

Does it have the soft V neck profile, or has that been changed too?

It has a slightly asymmetrical neck profile according to their marketing info.

Well, as usual I am behind on things ... just saw this post AND that guitar! I don't like the tuner buttons, though.  They look cheap on that guitar.  I cannot wait to buy one, as soon as I can manage to do so. WOW! Love, love, LOVE it.
