Location: South Windsor Connecticut | So I go to a local music store for a coffee house to play a few songs last night, along with my Ovation. When I pull out my guitar the owner says "you know what they call an Ovation after 20 years?" "a paddle". Should have seen the look on his face when I told him my guitar was 45 years old. Bammmm. |

Location: Jet City | Most folks that are close to me in my musical circles here are now all playing Ovations.
Last night I was at a friend's birthday party/jam fest and aside from my 2080, J had his 6778LX, Brian his 1778T-RF, and Budah playing his B778
My experience is more in line with the preacher. I get crap from online idiots more than I do in person. Most are very much in awe and surprised by the sound. It's hard to argue against a well setup and sounding Ovation if you actually are there hearing it in person or even better, have a chance to play it some. That's what hooked me, and that's how I hooked all my buddies. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I had lunch with a guitar friend lately who I had known online for some time and finally met up with in person. He said the only issue he has with Ovation is that he doesn't like to look down and see plastic. So DON'T LOOK DOWN !!!
Actually I bet a 6x24 inch piece of rosewood or mahogany grained contact paper positioned just right would do the trick. Hmm, marketing opportunity? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | When our oldest daughter took guitar lessons in college, after growing up around my Ovation and showing no interest, her teacher told her she should get a real wood guitar, so she ordered one that looked pretty. It was an Ibanez. It was OK, but like many pretty guitars it had a laminated top. I presume that it also had a laminated back and sides, like many of the "all wood" guitars that some people have. She lost interest and I heard she recently sold it. She still has the 83 Collector I gave her, though. Also a very pretty guitar, but solid spruce top that sounds great for a shallow bowl. |

Hmm, marketing opportunity? sure, why not... the UK-IIs Urelite body has a painted mahogany grain faux finish. ...or how about one of those graphic wraps like you see done to cars and trucks?  |

| I had never seen a UKIi when I bought mine and they had to explain to me that the body is not made of wood. Mine is a brown burst and the grain effect is done so well that it matches the neck and just fools everyone (I know that's not the point). When I decided to take the plunge and buy an acoustic I really wanted a brown bowl because I liked the look of it in pictures I found here and online. I bought a custom legend (1982) and love the look of the brown bowl, spruce top (aged). Multiple wood neck, gold parts and acres of inlay... I think now I actually enjoy playing a well set up great sounding underdog!! Will. |

Do you have your pups split on your Preacher? I've played a standard Preacher and those pickups are pretty thin and unexciting, I imagine having the unity gain pre-amp would help but have you played any of the other solid body Ovations and noted the difference? |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Never played (or seen) a guitar with the Preacher pickups and a split coil option. I have seen Preacher pickups that were set up with the same series/parallel switching as the UKII and while they add a lot of options to the Preacher pickups sound, it seemed more like putting lipstick on a pig. No offence meant to those who find pigs adorable of course. The Preacher pickups without the pre-amp have too unique of a sound for my taste. I can't imagine running 1/2 of one would be any improvement. |

A few players who see them but don't play them tell me they will not play in tune with a capo, they slide off your lap, they are only good for plugging in, you can't make music with plastic, etc. Non-musicians are neutral or positive. As for online, just igonre everything outside of the OFC. |

The guys at the local music store good naturedly tease me about the fact that I own 46 Applauses. One time I took in one of my AA-12's and let them play it. THAT shut them up. |
