Location: Spain		So let me get this right, a longneck is basically my guitar with two extra frets on the bottom end, presumably then tuned to "D", so in essence I have a guitar, just...longer... so I can then do things that are normally way too high....

Right?

Sick of having to tune a full step down to do Running On Faith, then back up again!

Location: Tennessee		Actually, no on the extra frets ... it's still 14 frets to the neck. The scale length is longer, meaning the measure of bridge to nut, and the frets are proportionally farther apart to maintain intonation. The strings, when tuned down two steps, make the tension essentially the same as standard tuning at the normal scale length.

The rest is correct in terms of playing a tune as usual but it will be two semi-tones lower. Or more if you use different strings and tune lower as darkbar suggests.

You can always put a poor man's baritone together. If you have an extra guitar, just put heavier strings on and tune that one down. Some guitars can sound just fine this way.

I tuned my Takamine down a tone today and it sounded really cool, (that's not hard it's the best sounding guitar I've ever owned up until the Elite) , I might just keep that one like that all the time, it's great! (what's the deal about heavier strings, this one sounds amazing and they're only 11s..am I missing something?)

Location: Hot Springs, S.D.		When you tune down, the lighter strings get floppy. Heavier strings are easy on the fingers when they are tuned down so you won't notice the difference in your fingertips, but you'll notice a big change (for the better) in tone.

 Yup, that's what I'm doin' on mine. D tuning,  .013 - .056 (D'Addario EJ17).  No complaints so far.

Wait... "poor man's baritone"?  Yeah well, guess I resemble that remark.

yes, because even though you will get some of the benefits, you will still miss out on the amazing awesome thunderous sound of a true longneck guitar.  While a tuned down guitar will sound good and accomplish the mission, it truly just isn't the same.

Location: Sydney, Australia		I've been babysitting one of these for the last few months and can attest to the sound of it. I put heavy strings (.014" and tune it to D or C. Man that thing can rumble your belly. This is different to tuning a standard guitar down.

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066		Well, the best and obviously most expensive would be an Adamas Longneck (special order only) that would either be like the longneck you saw me playing in the Guthrie Video or the 2080D version that I own along with 1 or 2 other members.

Next would be the DS768 which is the original Elite Baritone Longneck.
Then the newer DS778 which was the newest version with I believe a more shallow bowl than the 768.

Anything made overseas would fall into the last category.

Just my opinion and others may differ.
