Somebody over there posted a pictured of what must be a prototype of the Country Artist that was built for Jerry Reed ![]() As I'm sure you know, Reed and Glen Campbell were big influences in getting that guitar designed and built. Buddy Blackmon told me once that this was the guitar that Reed used to play on the bus traveling between gigs. Everybody else would be asleep and Reed would be quietly playing this guitar....

You couldn't find these for years, but on the Chetboard, I learned that somebody is now making these, debuting them at the CAAS right now. Supposedly, they are the best p/u for a nylon string ever built. ![]() The p/u looks like it's all brass (I really have no idea), and you can see that it anchors at the bottom of the bridge with 2 adjustible screws to set intonation. The new one looks just like this.

He loves the necks on them. That's what he made all those records with. Fender spent thousands of dollars making him a special guitar, and he was right back to that Baldwin." Yandell owns the original Baldwin that Reed used to record "Jerry's Breakdown" and many of his other classic instrumentals. Yandell recalls that in the '60s and early '70s, on-board EQ, notch filters, and sophisticated outboard gear were virtually nonexistent. "Jerry would just plug it into an amp, and away he went," Yandell says. "It didn't have any EQ, just a preamp to boost the signal." Yandell has high praise for the piezo pickup Baldwin used. "I think the Prismatone is the best, most balanced piezo ever made," he asserts. "It's a shame they're not making it now."

Sam was indeed showing his new pickup at CAAS, and I shot a photo of it mounted on a Sand Nylon Electric. It sounds great! I have Sam's email address and phone number, and if anyone is interested I'd be happy to share it... just pm me. I have no affiliation whatsoever with Sam Kennedy... I'm just a fan of the Prismatone II pickup. ![]()
