I am looking for one of the 40th anniversary Ovation Glen Campbell 6 string acoustic/electric guitars. Does anyone know where I can get one. Ovation only made these in 2006 and I was hoping Al would have one in his shop but he doesn't. Also looking for the Ovation that was similar to the one John Lennon used.
Any help I get from you guys, would be great.

As to the Lennon, there are the original Legend Ltd (AAA spruce, A braced, deep bowl, nutmeg finish, non-cutaway) that come on eBay or on the OFC. In 2005, for the Japanese market, a reissue of the "Lennon" was made. From what I was told by Al, I have the only non-FRG in the U.S.

There were about five FRG's found and sold, most to OFC'ers. An FRG is a Factory Reconditioned Guitar - although those that have bought FRG's usually can't find any reason or problem. It is a great guitar, whether FRG or non-FRG.

Not playing it so would consider $1,200 w/OHSC (not including shipping and insurance). It is in as-new condition, no warranty.

Sorry, no idea where you can find the GC.

Tony's not a dealer, but has a great inventory. That John Lennon is a great guitar. I can't remember if I played Tony's, but Dave had one that I played and really liked.

As it is a reissue, it has the same stacked vol/tone knob on the upper shoulder, stereo output.

**these are not pictures of my guitar but were used to advertise the reissue**

Several of these original 1651 Legend Ltds have recently been offered for sale or purchased here on the OFC. Wonderful guitars. I purchased mine new in 1981 and it was my only guitar for 20 years. They have the original FET mono/stereo electrics with stacked volume/tone controls on the side of the bowl front just above the neck joint. The 2006 reissues have a different neck reinforcement system and are not as neck heavy as the originals.

I would love to have one. I think they look so much better than the Glen Campbell models. I have several Ovation Legends that I bought in the early 80's. One is natural brown bowl without electronics and the other one is black and it has the 3 band eq when Ovation had just come out with that. I would never part with those guitars. They sound so good and the quality is top notch.

And mine doesn't have the shame of an FRG stamp

Just kidding...I have seen several FRG's, as have others, and we wonder what was the issue. If you can get one of the ? five FRG's, you might save a couple of dollars...always the buyer's decision.

A quick search of archive will show you some wonderful responses from those who have had or have a great guitar.

Mark, don't think we had time to try that many when you were here and this was in the second row gathering dust.

When they came out with the reissues, they re-engineered both this pre-amp and the two-knobber...Several of us have noted that the new re-engineered pre-amps are better than the originals.

Sometimes reissues turn out to be little more than a cheezy wanna-be. But in the case of both the GCRI and the JL3, the reissues are FAR superior to the originals in every way, based on my personal hands on experience owning all of them. What Tony is asking for his JL3 is a STEAL !!!

Yep, if you really want a JL3, then I would immediately PM or email Tony with your intentions.

At that price and with all the people that will read this thread over the upcoming weeks, it WILL BE GONE by the end of May.

Noooo..unfortunately not me. GAS funds depleted, and the brain is too unfortunately.

Shall we meet half way and guess mid-May?

Timing is never important as I project a nice bump in new and used U.S. made Ovations over the next several years. Some guitars such as a FD-14, couple of 1687's, 1763, couple of Al DiMiolas, etc., were only listed after someone was trying to find one.

Sells now, fine...sells later, higher cost.
