Location: New Hampsha | Try and figure out the typical Ebay buyer? There are great condition Balladeers going without bids at entry bids of $200 and yet somebody ponies up $175 for this Legend POS whose top has more waves than Hampton Beach! And cracked to boot!

Location: Central Florida | My guess is, the buyer may be looking at it as a fixer-upper, given those cracks. As for those waves in the top, they may not be as bad is that picture would have you believe.
I had an '83 Custom Legend that had similar waves, but it didn't affect tone or playablility in the least, and was structurally solid. In fact, it was one of the sweetest sounding and playing O's I've ever owned. Not to be contrary, but who ever bought this may have gotten a sweeter deal than what immediately meets the eye.
With only $175 invested thus far, they could send that up to the factory and have the top/bowl assembly replaced and come away with a mint or near mint "vintage" Custom Legend for well under a grand. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I would suspect that the winning bidder has bought one of those build-your-own kits from StewMac and will adorn the kit with abalone binding, a carved walnut bridge, abalone rosette and bolt on the custom legend neck. Location: Tennessee | My guess is, the buyer may be looking at it as a fixer-upper, given those cracks. Or maybe the buyer suffers from Willie Nelson syndrome. I think the seller was one of our own ... the guitar could still play and sound very nice, and the top just adds a unique flavor. It could be very appealing for tortured poets in a coffee house setting. |

Location: Flushing, MI | If it was playable, I'd pay $175 for a CL. I don't care what it looks like! My Legend, and Matrix both look pretty rough too.
I'm kinda looking around for another beater Legend or Balladeer with electronics this time, since mine doesn't. My only electric/acoustic is my Celebrity, so I need to correct this situation. |

The top on this one was badly cracked and the crack is still visable under the finish. The waves in the top were smoothed out, the bridge and resette were replaced, OP-Pro w/XLR installed. |

I'm a bottom feeder and lurk about on Ebay looking to find an American O that someone sat on so I can try a top replacement.
I'm not quite ready to toss in the towell and buy a perfectly unit to dissect, but at these prices I'm getting closer.... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Mitch, that is beautiful. If your 1537 is done yet, could you post some pics of it? If I bought a fixer upper Legend, it would be a deep bowl CL. I'm not too concerned about the latest electronics, but I figure I'd need at least a $300 discount in order to justify getting a new top. If I had an extra $500, I might do it. That's about what it cost me to get the Boxster fixed last week. I could have driven a little longer with no brakes. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | Mark, I'm picking up the 1537 at the upcoming OFC factory tour. I'll post some before and after pics then. The top on my old 1619 (which the factory graciously re-labeled as 1719) was not replaced, just refinished. Whoever bought that CL for $175 could get the top refinished and the frets dressed by the factory for about $300-350. |
