Joined: September 2004 Posts: 777 Location: East Wenatchee, WA | to sell, that is the question. I am faced with a Dilema. Since getting my Adamas, I am absolutely playing it all the time. I love my 1537, but it is mostly eye candy now that I pull out from time to time just to admire it and play it a bit, but in the end, the Adamas has become the "horse" (as in workhorse) that I use in all my playing, except when I get the electric out. I am not the personality type to accumulate things I don't use (just don't look at my garage, although most of it is the kid's yard sale stuff). Therefore, my quandry is that I am considering selling her to obtain another late model Adamas. Have not picked one yet, but the thoughts are there. I figured something unique, like a 12 string or the 2080 maybe (is that right?). Anyway, appreciating the wisdom (and I am sure some wit on this one) of this group, I thought I would elicit some commentary before making the mistake. My 1537 is in really nice shape. The only flaws being one finish crack, some pick wear on the epulet (prior owner as I never touch it) and an occassional rough spot on the wood binding. Oh, there is the one marking on the tone knob missing. I was going to send it in and have it made as new, but ....not sure why as it pretty much is in sweet shape now. I guess I can't stand the thought of a piece of artwork like this not getting appreciated. Okay....fire away gents

I know how you feel about one getting all the play - since I bought my 1881, my Elite T has hardly been touched. I guess I would look at is as the 1537 is a collector's item, as well as a beautiful instrument. Another Adamas is never a bad idea, but is it something better or different than what you have now. Going from a 6 to a 12 makes sense, but from a 6 to a 6? Just my two cents - hope I didn't make it worse. If you do decide to sell the 1537, post it here first for sure!

Trading up to any of those models would be nice. The best answer I know of is to come to the factory Tour and play the best assortment of Adamas/Ovation/Hamer guitars yet assembled on this planet! Then you will know what you want! Or at least have it down to five or so models! :D

I shudder to think I almost let him take my 1547. Nothing, IMO, will ever replace it short of a factory reissue. I am very happy to have not parted ways with the 1547, and I think, in the future, you would regret letting the 1537 slip through your hands. Think of the lighter usage as preservation.

I missed out on your 12 that I talked with you about a year ago, but have never owned one myself (or a Preacher for that matter). Good point on the Tour. Probably not this year, but maybe I will hold out for a year and take your advice. :DSo Jeff, Do you miss your Preacher Deluxe 12 or any of the others that are "gone"? You should hang on to it!

I've thought about selling them, but then decided that whether they get played a lot or not, I get real enjoyment out of owning them. It took me awhile to realize that it's ok to own guitars that don't get played regularly.

If I use it, I keep it, if I don't, I move on to something I will. My firearm collection, due to lack of use, has been trimmed down to only those that I call "keepers" (I use them) or heirlooms that I wouldn't feel right about getting rid of as they were either gifts or inherited. However, I must admit, that the 1537 was my first "real guitar" (i.e. of some measure of quality) and it has served me through many good and bad times, so I guess I could call it an heirloom. Not sure my kids appreciate the stuff like I do though. Hmmmmm....lots of interesting thoughts.

At the moment you may be Adamas mad but maybe in 6 months you'll be looking for "old faithful" but she's gone. As for heirlooms, my two sons can't wait for me to die so they can sell'em off, and I've only just turned forty !(today in fact)
