An Ovation owner since 1976 ( a balladeer ) recently ,reluctantly sold to help purchase a 1998 Adamas 1687. My god what a difference!! only problem is, when I plug in to my Laney valve amp the tuner lights seem to be going through some kind of programmed routine and then the pre amp switches its self off with a loud click.I have installed a new battery and tried various knob twiddling but cannot suss it  .Does anybody have an idea what is going on, any help would be much appreciated.

I don't have your answer but you can be sure someone here will. We have a good number of members here from your side of the pond.

Try talking to the service dept at JHS. www.jhs.co.uk If you bought the guitar used it won't be covered under warranty, but they have replacement preamps. If they insist you go through a dealer drop me an email, I have an account with them through my business and can order spares for you.

When I used the tuner unpluged, after a short time the green light flashes and then the unit shuts down, probably to save battery power? am I right on this. If I plug in to the amp it is again shutting down, this does sound like PT's explaination could be right. I'll contact JWS tommorrow and come back. regards

This is exactly the behavior I got when I had an Optima plugged in using an incompatible XLR. when I turned the tuner on, the preamp would work until the tuner turned off. For this to happen using the 1/4 inch I think might just be dirty contacts that sense the presence of the plug.
