I have been playing an ovation celebrity for about six years, and have always tried to push it to the loudest brassiest tone I could achieve for playing outside with friends. Just this last weekend I found a flawless Alvarez 12-string at a rummage sale, and as soon as I picked it up, I knew the ovation would only ever be used when I was near an amp (something that it excells at).

So here is what I would like to do. I live in an apartment with a neurotic female, and would like to be able to play the celebrity with headphones without bothering her. I don't want an electric sound, but I would like to cut the acoustic output of the celebrity as much as possible. Here are the steps I would like to take:

1. Airlock feedback plugs for soundholes
2. Batting filler to kill resonance of body
3. perhaps a surface mount electromag pickup to play around with.

Has anyone tried this? (probably not) if not, what suggestions do you have? Please don't tell me I'm ruining the guitar, the reason I'm doing this is I like it so much and don't want to play an electric.

Your problem is not the guitar, it's the neurotic female.

Put a sock in it!

You're in a tough situation my friend. I don't envy you.

When I lived at my parents and wanted to play at night, I would lay a thick sock between the strings and the sound board in a spot between the sound hole and the bridge. I learned this from an interview with charo, whose a pretty fair flamenco artist. It makes things sound plinky but it's better than not playing. Your other alternatives don't make any sense.

The next best alternative is get one of those silent yamaha guitars. Going electric actually is your best alternative.

If you keep playing eventually the crazy chick will stop complaining. You can outlast her. Good luck!

We have a large house with a basement. I set up down there. Now that the kids are gone, my wife wants a smaller house, but she wants a bigger bed so she doesn't have to sleep so close to me. If I hang out in the basement too much, she complains that I'm being antisocial.
Just get a house with a basement and see if she complains that you never talk to her.

Fill it with Mayonaize (the guitar, not the neurotic female). On second thought that would be pretty messy.

Buy an electric guitar and use headphones.

Wouldn't that be nice. Too bad about her engagement, tho. Seems her future in-laws forced the engagement to be cancelled because she is too trashy. Apparently, they saw some of her internet video.

In Bernard Goldberg's latest book, he doesn't trash Paris Hilton, he trashes her parents for raising her as she is. Makes sense.

I flew in the face of convention and stuffed three t-shirts into the body. rolled up black ones up against the top and bottom sound holes, and one loosely under the bridge.

sustain is the same, kills a little volume (that's what I wanted) and completely eliminates feedback. now I can fingertap like eddie.

I'm just getting used to this whole plugging-in-the-guitar thing after moving off my sailboat... the korg toneworks ax1000g is the most incredible soundboard I've ever heard.
