Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Anybody have any experience with a Keeley compressor pedal? Older two knob vis-a-vis the newer four knob model? A bit pricey. Is it worth it? |

Location: Scotland | The Keeley compressor is great for electric guitar, very much like the early MXR Dynacomp but a lot less noisy. I found it a little on the savage side for acoustic guitar. |

Location: Scotland | I have a few, my stage rig has a DBX MiniComp. I also have a Carl Martin and an Aphex Punch Factory. I'm happy to use any of those for acoustic guitar.
I've just got hold of a reissue Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer which is horrible on acoustic but amazing for lap steel and slide. I also have a Keeley but the Carl Martin is the one that gets used most. It's very transparent if you need it to be or can squash the hell out of the signal. There's not many pedal compressors that can do both. |

Location: Houston, Texas | I've got an early two knobber and use it for electric guitar, I never plug in my acoustics so I can't offer much advice there. But for electric use I can't imagine playing without it anymore.
VERY quiet compared to other compressors, and lets the full range of frequencies shine through. Expensive, yes, but I'd buy another if I lost it. I had the sustain pot go bad on mine, I wrote them an email and they sent me a new one free overnight. Oh, and its very miserly on the batteries!
I haven't tried the four knobber, but my understanding is that for regular guitar work you don't need the other two knobs. Only if your using it to compress other signals with significantly larger or smaller signal level outputs. |
