I'm glad to be here. This looks like definitely the place for Ovationites. :)
I found my way here after searching for info and/or a wiring diagram for the Breadwinner. After reading Mr Figgs "informative" and intriguing thread, I had to register.
Anyway, I guess I'm looking for opinions and information on this guitar. Whether or not I should try to restore it, or just use as is.
I've had this Breadwinner for quite a while, 20 years or more. Picked it up for a song from a neighborhood kid who was moving on to his next butcher project.
Stock tuners, have the stock(original) nylon bridge thingies, but not the original pickups. It looks like the original owner added something to the electronics. There is an extra switch on the pick guard. Seems to be a boost of some sort. Any ideas on what? I suppose I'll have to open up the pick guard to see what's really been done. It has a great neck and the sound is just amazing. It really screams.
Early battery cover and serial number 950 make it an early model.
Are the original pickups even available for this beauty?

It's not so much the serial number that makes it early as the end-Jack and the non-embossed battery cover and neck-plate, along with the nylon saddles.
Other than the notching out for the strings behind the bridge, it would not take much to return it to original looking.
Is the original pre-amp still onboard and working?
Regardless of having the original pre-amp, you really only need the right pickguard and pickups. I have pickups and I will check if I have that model pickguard. Not long after the 1st run, they started putting the jack ON the pickguard, so the original ones with only the 4 holes are pretty rare.
As far as the extra switch... who knows. It may be a manual bypass for the pre-amp or a switch for phase or single/dual for the pickups, or or or or or.. |

I am seriously interested in restoring this Breadwinner to original configuration. I'm sure I could patch the pick guard adequately. The body repairs are right down my alley. The only problem would be finding the original pickups. |

Location: Brisbane Australia | If the preamp is working!!....that's the main thing......the original Toroidal Single coils are about....as Miles said he probably has some....MWoody had a set for sale also....I'm in the process of restoring a Deacon of the same era....

Thank you all for the comments and help on my project. This is gonna be a daily player for me and I'm looking forward to restoring the former glory.
OH, if anyone has an idea of what that switch in the previous post is wired up for just by looking at it, please share with me before I start cutting wires. Thanx. (I'm not kidding, I'll really do it too!! )
