There was recently a thread about the popularity of the 'big 2' in electrics - the Les Paul and the Strat. I asked for a comparison between the big 2 and the O solid bodies, but my post was the thread killer. :(

Personally, I love the look of the preacher, viper and UKII, but hate the breadwinner.
Edit; and Deacon!

Could someone in the know give us acoustic types a comparison between the famous 2 and the 'O' solid bodies? (Just in case I feel the need to acquire an electric in the distant future. I'd prefer it to be an 'O'.)
I know which one's I like from a purely cosmetic viewpoint, but what are your (obviously subjective ;) ) impressions / opinions of these interesting guitars, sound wise and playability and how do they stack up against the big two?

I'd love to own one down the track, and I'm not interested in Hamers.

They're OK but I'd get a Hamer.

Here's mine. I love the Deke and the Viper, but I'd also like to get another Strat one day. I wish I'd never sold my '91 American Standard. I like the feel, the way the neck fills my hand and the 5 way switch. I've never been completely comfortable with a Les Paul. But a Strat is great for slinging all around.

Personal opinion: The GP was a far, far better looking guitar than any bwinner, deacon, viper, UK, etc. Tone wise, I don't know enough about electrics to make an informed opinion. I've got a '62 Tele that I am very pleased with. Strats seem OK to me but I've never played or seen one that was "must have". From a purely cosmetic point of view, I love the looks of PRS. Seems like they have really nailed the high end. Hamer has one major flaw in my opinion, the damn headstock is just way too big, otherwise I'd have no problem jumping on that bandwagon. I've tried the VXT. It's not for me. End of the day, if you're looking for a solidbody electric I think there are tons of choices in every price range (I'm partial to Daisy Rock) so choosing is the toughest part. I guess if I had the money I'd buy a PRS. That new Taylor seems kind of interesting as well. Dave

For me, Warriors and McInturff's do everything the Fender/Gibson/PRS/etc do and I don't need a dozen guitars to do it.

I still own a Deacon 12 (one of the BEST 12 string electrics ever made) and a Limited 6 and have owned numerous Vipers, Viper III's, UK's and Preachers.

IMO, the Preachers were dull and lifeless, the Deacon/Breadwinners are too "brite" for live but sound incredible when recording, the Vipers are really nice but for me the Viper III is the ultimate in versatility. Tons of options and sounds. The UK2 is unbeatable for sustain so if grunge/alternative is your choice of music, you need one. The one Miles is currently offering on ebay is one of the coolest looking ones I have seen.

Stephen, as you know, I have examples of all the models on which you are asking for a comparo. Feel free to bring your Warrior and McInturff over as well, and some of that great recording gear you also have, and we'll do up a solid-bodied sound test for the rest of the folks to judge.

Actually, Muzza was asking for the comparo...I have already owned them all. ;)

Sound clips of them would be fun but it would be a LOT EASIER for you to bring over a bunch of guitars that for me to disassemble the studio with mics.
