This is listed on Ebay now. I got a PM from someone in Moscow Russia, asking if I could ship it there via USPS, and what the cost would be...
Any advice on pros and cons or experience of shipping a guitar overseas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I shipped 2 to Russia, it took a long time. One came back and was resent. A bit of a pain.

Thanks Mario. I may be a pessimist, but I don't have a good feeling about it.
Whatever can go wrong normally does.

I will jump in and say Don't Do It.
In the old days (I haven't checked lately) Russia was on list of countries that eBay recommended that you NOT ship stuff to.
(Italy was on that list too, but I think that was for crappy mail service. Who knows?)

Was it Alex? His name here is Mature Wulf.
He is a member here and a really good guy. I have email contact with him often.... and I don't think that it would get trouble sending to Russia these days.

I only know his Ebay username, and it is not Alex or Mature Wulf.
He did not mention the OFC, or comment on this thread, so most likely not a member here.

If you ship using the Feebay Global Shipping Program it works good but takes awhile to get to the buyer,it will give you what countries qualify for the program you ship it to Feebay and they take care of the international shipping, customs ,fees etc.
If a country isn't in there list then you have to use USPS international and that can be a PITA
just my humble opinion

I sold a guitar to a member in Russia. It cost ~$185 to ship and got there in about a week.

I wouldn't hesitate to do that again but by selling it to a member I was much more confident than I would have been to someone otherwise on eBay.

I live in Milano and from 1984 to early 2Ks I bought more than 200 guitars (for me and some friends) from my good friend George Gruhn. All of them shipped by UPS or other carriers. I also bought another 100 guitars from different dealers. Never had a problem.
Yes, we had a crappy mail service in the Seventies and early Eighties, but (1) I used UPS or Fedex and (2) the buyer pays in advance, so where's the problem?
NB: The dealers who refused to ship to Italy for an obsolete prejudice lost my business and my money, their problem, not mine.
My late advice, for future guitars: get a shipping quote from UPS, get the money from the buyer (member or not), ship the guitars and be happy.

Although too late for a Christmas gift (to yourself), this is still available.
Will drop price to $1500 plus shipping.
Not interested in any trades at this time, since I am trying to "thin the herd".
Also, I am hesitant to ship outside of US, don't need the complications.

Real cheap for that guitar. They reissued them a few years back and I suspect that they went for much more.
