Since New Hartford still makes Al Di Legends, they could probably make you an 1867.
They would just need to hunt-down a shallow bowl.
And as I see it, Your Authorized Ovation Dealer would be Al.

| FYI, during the last shop visit that we Guild folks had to New Hartford (last month), I don't recall seeing any Ovations in assembly. Still plenty of necks, fingerboards, etc., to be seen, but I don't recall seeing anything finished this time. In visits past, I seem to recall several of them being built. |

Location: Marlton, NJ | Al kindly got me a quote, so yes, the models I'm interested can still be purchased. Sadly though the prices are considerable higher than before; for example, the list price has gone up about $1500, or about 60%. I suppose that's because they are now made one at a time instead of in batches. Sadly though, it's puts the cost of a new USA Ovation beyond what most people would be willing to spend or could afford.
One thing I wonder though if if the quality would be better or worse than before. It could be better because of it being built as a one-off, similar to a custom. Or it could be worse if the person building it isn't experienced with Ovations. I don't know how much of the original staff remains in New Hartford.
I wish Fender never gutted Ovation - or Hamer, another favorite brand of mine which operated out of the same factory. |

Location: New Bern, NC | I'm new to the forum, but not new to Ovation. Today I was wondering about which models are still made in the US and am sad to see so little still made here. I searched the ovationguitars.com site and saw a lot of models made in their "Pacific-based subsidiary" which I presumed meant Korea or China. I had actually considered traveling up to New Hartford to see the "mother ship," but it looks like I may not see any Ovations being made the day I arrive. What a heartbreak. Since I don't have the pocket book of Melissa Etheridge or Al DiMeola, if I ever buy another Ovation I think I would rather stick with an American-made used model. |

Al's got a 1687 that would blow the doors off an Elite, imo, and probably leave you a little Christmas money to boot over a Custom Custom Elite.

It hardly seems fair to compare them. Or have you personally heard an American-made Custom Elite played next to the 1687? I would expect Al's guitar to blow the doors off that Elite at a $2000 price difference. Sadly, I could only afford the Korean-made Custom Elite, but if I were in the market for an additional guitar, I think I would search for an older American made Ovation. By the way, I've seen the new contoured bowls, but haven't played one. They look very strange! What if your body doesn't conform to that shape?? I think I like the old bowl better, which is another reason I'd search for an older model Ovation. My Custom Legend 1619 is a deep bowl. |

Location: NH | If you haven't played a contoured bowl then I would encourage you to do so and decide for yourself. I've owned a few deep bowls and my preference is towards the contoured bowl. |
