Welcome.

That question is like a red rag to a bull round these parts.

I would normally answer, "define 'best'" but on this occasion I would say the Ovation I like the most (for it's tone, playability, feel, etc, etc) under $1000 is the 2007 Collector.

Then there's the 2006 Collector, oh and the 1997 Collector. A FD-14 was available for less than $1000. There are ***MANY*** great guitars to choose from.

It all depends on what you like and what's available!!!

So what do you like? What materials? What type of tone? What style to you play? Does it need to be great acoustically or just electric? ETC ETC ETC.

Your question is a like like saying "what's the best colour?"...

A good start would be to tell us what type of music you like to play and whether you will be playing primarily plugged in or unplugged. For less than a grand, there are some outstanding good used guitars available, and to many people the used ones are better. It's kinda' like wine ... They just get even better with age. I agree on dweezel's comment about the 2007BCS Collectors for a "new" guitar. They are a really great playing and sounding guitar and a real value (Of course that could easily be said about the majority of USA made Ovations). You may want to check out the for sale section here. I have yet to read about any dissatisfied purchasers from this bunch, and most will help steer you to some great deals. WHAT EVER YOU DO ... even though you may be excited about snagging a good Ovation, DON'T be in a hurry. Take your time and research what you would really like. On the "links" section above, you can go to the Ovation Tribute page and look through a bunch of different models. I think you will be suprised at just how many different flavor of Ovations there are. A word of warning ... it's addicting.

If you like a lot of bass, the '07 Collectors is great. If you like bright with an abundance of clarity, you'd love a 2077LX. If you want something with richness and balance, an older Legend or Deluxe Balladeer will warm your soul. And yes, the for sale section here would be a good place to shop. I never in my life would even THINK about buying a guitar until I held it in my hands, but I have bought several from long standing members here and have been VERY happy with my purchases. You will get exactly what they advertise. If there is the tiniest flaw, they will tell you and show you pictures. If it is "like new", it will be exactly that-like new. Keep checking the for sale section several times a day. You will find something in no time.

Gotta ask, what's motivating you to buy an ovation?
