I have yet to find a price (MAP or street) for the Op-Pro Studio. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you, but I'd hate to call him, take up his time, and then have to politely--and uncomfortably--defer if the price is more than I can invest at the moment.
Can someone ballpark the price?

Can someone actually ballpark the price of all the preamps? And (might as well go for broke) mention their experience with the tonal differences?

I've been considering swapping out an OP-PRO for one of the ones with the notch filters, but not if it will sacrifice tonal quality. Is the OP-PRO better tonally than its predecessors (I imagine)? And how about compared to the VIP or the iDEA?

Just call Al, that is his business. I'm relativly confident that every call he gets does not result in a sale.

Google is your friend. But Al cannot state his prices here (or anywhere), since they are almost always below MAP. He's a businessman - it's his job to answer questions about the products, including his price. Declining to buy when you talk to him is a part of doing business. What's not cool is to pick his brains, get his best price, and then use that to try to negotiate a better price (not that you would) somewhere else.

Just call him. If you like the price, buy it from him. If it's more than you can afford, just tell him. He's a businessman, after all, he doesn't expect a commitment from everyone who calls to find out a price.
I know I've done it to him more than once, and he's always been very courteous.

I've deferred Al a couple of times because of price. So far, no Ovation Goon Squad has kicked in my door. Just call him and ask. He will NOT be offended. He will however, give you the best price you're gonna find.

Which guitar do you want to put it in?

The Studio sounds like the OpPro when you do not use the compressor or excitor. But, when you use those functions it adds a lot to the live sound IMO, depending on guitar. In the '07 Collector it was a big improvement over the OpPro or the VIP (standard equip. is the VIP). In the 1778 T it was a nice improvement from the Op30, and in the 6778LX it was a nice improvement from the OpPro.

In the Adamas 2080 I have not gigged with it, but plugged in at home into the acoustic amp or into the laptop for recording the Studio is not as big an improvement. The VIP in the Adamas sounds really nice. In the '07C the VIP didn't float my boat.

For live performance the Studio compressor does a really nice job of taming the dynamics without sounding squashed. But a good outboard pedal could do the same thing. The harmonic excitor does add a very nice richness to the wood topped O's that I've tried it in.

I would say that it depends on what exactly you are looking for in terms of should you spend the $. The Studio is my go-to preamp except for the 2080 which I haven't played enough yet to decide if if it beats the VIP.

Studio does not need a dummy plug to turn on the tuner, btw, but the VIP and the iDea both do.

I got my Studio from Al. The eBAy prices are more than his price was.

I might not have used the right keyword(s), but I was unable to find a price with Google or by directly searching eBay.
I want to put it in a 1778TX.
When I play, I always use a compressor. In the past, I usually used a DOD MilkBox. ; lately, I've been using a Visual Sound Route 66. In addition, for the longest time, I also used an Aphex Xciter (pedal), but I haven't been using it lately, only because I wanted to strip the rig back even more to just the amp, the guitar, and the comp.
However, a guitar equipped with a preamp that has a comp and enhancer built right in...well, that seems custom made for me. And though I have pedals that I like that I can use to do the same thing as the preamp would seem to be able to do, having that circuitry built right in would be ideal for those occasions when it's more suitable (or expected) to plug into the venue's board.
I will call Al.
And I thank all of you again sincerely.
