Losov, you better not come around when I'm putting up guitar hangers. Although I have one of the electronic gizmos, I prefer to pound with a hammer until I hear something solid and then drive a nail into it. I've found it's a much more accurate way of finding a true stud.

How true, Mark. Although this is one of my standard stage jokes, I happened to think of it while I was putting up some shelves. In fact, the stud detectors are about as accurate as the weather forecasters around here. I ultimately used your method, which always works.

Boy, ain't THAT the truth about stud finders?!?!? Useless pieces of junk! The ol' hammer agains the wall works a LOT better!

I don't like stud inders either, I found that magnets work well to find the nails/screws in the drywall. I can pretty much guarantee there is a stub behind them.

Wow. How clever. How un-moronic. This contributes such REAL value to the proceedings. Wow. There's so much insight into guitars here, especially Ovations. How thought provoking and informative. I've learned, I see the light. Now I know what I've been doing wrong.

Wow.

My father, an electrician by trade, always told me to learn to use my ears. That way I could find a stud by tapping on the wall with my fingers as opposed to a hammer which can leave marks (and sometimes good size ones). He was great at it and I don't recall one time when he missed a stud. When I was growing up he told me he had X-ray vision (which was one of the several things that kept me in line when I was sent to my room). I'm not nearly as good as he was at it but I find it's as good as a hammer these days and training the ears didn't hurt when I started playing guitar either.
