Location: Montana | Guitar chords seem to last my teenager about 3 or 4 months and then they crap out. The last one we "autopsied" the wires had come disconnected from the head so we soldered it and it lasted a month and then it broke again. He doesn't seem to be rough with them but they keep breaking. Is this normal or is that what you get for a $20 cord? The last cord we bought was a Fender. Any recommendations on brands or features?
The salesman was really pushing the cords that have the magnetic snap together action but I thought $40 was too much for the cool factor.

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Well it all depends on how she's treating them. I have an old fender coil cable, probably 25 years old, still works great. So that said, if the cables are just sitting in your studio, then whatever's cheapest at musicians friend.
If your teenager moves a little then, planet waves makes an assortment of cables that'll fit your wallet. Most of us probably fit in that catagory.
If your teenager is doing it right while performing she probably is moving around while playing, so you need something sturdy. I'd start with the monster cable, and see how she likes it, then move on to one of the other two below if it doesn't work out.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Don't like the tweed cables, myself. I can't stand the way they coil up by themselves and create great little loops on the floor into which you step and get tripped up right in the middle of your honkin' solo. |
