My new 1773 LX gives me troubles. If I play certain notes on the neck I hear a buzz. It does not happen when I removed the pre-amp from the guitar body. Any idea????

Pop the preamp out and you'll see a screwhead on each end of the can. Tighten them (don't use excessive force).

I didn't have much success tightening the 2 screws. The rattling varies when I tighten/untighten the screws but I can't get rid of the rattling completely.

then you need to put some sort of foam between the can and the preamp.
this is the only time i heard of this problem.

I bought this guitar from you Al, back in March this year. I'm not in the US anymore otherwise I would have sent it back to you for a check.
I'm in the Uk and I don't know if there's an Ovation repair shop in London.

I have had to chase the "buzz" and have found it to be on the staploc washer/strap part occasionally.

Inside wires as well.

Try removing the preamp and see (listen) as well.

On the pins where you put on the strap (iff applicable).

As funny as it MAY sound, check all of the machine head hardware. Make sure that the tuning peg washers are snugged-down. Alot of times, errant vibrations/rattles can travel down the neck only to be amplified by the soundboard and make it APPEAR that the "buzz" is coming from inside the body . . .

They are the washer/pin/washer/"C" ring assembly on the strap if you use the Straploc type. If not tight the washer can buzz.

Very hard to isolate.

mhhh... now that you mention tuning pegs, I realize that the rattling noise happened shortly after I change one broken string.
I will have a look tonight.

ok... I've fiddled with the preamp, removed it from its box, removed the battery, put it back in, put the preamp back into its box and the rattling noise disappeared completely.
Still a mystery as far as I'm concerned but hey can't complain.
Thanks everyone for the advices.
