Joined: October 2002 Posts: 10 Location: Bowmanville Ontario Canada | I am trying to date my Ovation. I believe it was purchased May 1969. Is there anyway of telling when it was manufactured, and what the guitar is worth. Also I am trying to replace the plastic end of one tuning peg. Any ideas where I can order some. I would like to use the guitar while I am waiting for this item. Any ideas of what I could use. Thanks Mark [ October 12, 2002: Message edited by: Mark Wheatley ]

The few Josh Whites I've seen had pretty poor-quality machines with white plastic buttons. When the model was reissued as the Folklore they used the far superior Schaller 3-on-a-plate M6's with pearloid buttons. Stewmac will have some suitable better quality replacement machines for your guitar. You'll be better off replacing the lot than trying to replace the cheap white plastic buttons, unless you're fanatical that it must stay all-original. Personally I think if appropriate new hardware is used it doesn't detract from value & can improve performance. If your guitar actually is an early Josh White, congratulations on owning a very rare & cool guitar. www.stewmac.com Paul

The tuners on my Josh White are pretty common on other early classicals.I have seen them on other guitar models and have found them for sale at Guitar shows before.Im sure someone makes reproductions of these tuners..I have seen them...

I must have have an early Folklore because I purchased it when I was 15 and I am now 48. I can not find the serial number. Any help? If I had the serial # I could date it.

I also have a Seagull S6 Mahogany Folk SG. It is great for finger picking. I love the mello sound it gives. I believe it is because of the cedar top. Can I order these pearloid buttons from Schaller or do I need to go through a distributor. I live in Ontario just outside of Toronto. Thanks Mark

It is nice to be back playing the Ovation. By the way if you can't fly with Eagles the next best thing is with a Seagull.
