Hi everybody, I'm new here as I just bought my first Ovation a few hours ago. I was looking in the pawnshop and I saw this cool solidbody guitar for $320. It was beautiful and played well so I bought it. It looks exactly like an UltraHardbody GP but it has no serial number. Is this normal or is the serial number hidden somewhere? Or did I just get ripped off?

Thank you so much,
Chris

I've never seen a UK-2 before but I just looked one up on eBay and it's definately different. This looks exactly like Josh Homme's (Queens of the Stone Age) guitar, except instead of a stoptail and tune-o-matic it has a compact bridge that's hard to explain. Only thing is it doesn't have a serial number, but oh well. It plays great, I'd just like to know what it is.

Thanks,
Chris

Love to see a picture of it. Sounds like you found yourself a rare gem. If you can take a digi pic, there is a place under LINKS with instructions on how to upload it to the site.

Thanks for your help, next time I go to get pictures of my band scanned on disk I'll make sure to get a few snaps of the guitar.

Thanks again,
Chris

That sounds like a GP with one of the schaller type bridge/tailpieces.
Nice catch.

I was thinking GP, but the "compact bridge" lets me thinks... PF-22 maybe? Hey "Outside Vegas" does the neck BOLT on (neck plate), does it look like the neck is "GLUED" on... or does it look like there are are dowels that are covering screws? By the way, if it's the last.. the dowels are not covereing screws, they are just alignment holes... but that's what they look like.

Just got my first ovation as well.....same day.......I am looking for the Josh Homme guitar..............can not find one anywhere...........is the model he plays a ultra hardbody GP? He did not say in G.P. magazine...........just that this rare ovation is the key to his sound, a sound I have long admired since the beginning of Kyuss.
Lastly, is Josh a member?
Pe-auce.

Hey guys, the neck is definitely glued in. I've been talking with a person from Ovation through emails and he said on those early models the serial numbers were on small stickers that could easily fall off. Looks like I made a deal!

To the person before me, Josh does use an Ultrahardbody GP.

Thanks,
Chris

Good find! What color is it? Oh and Josh's guitars are modded with the stop tail. The original bridge is a Schaller 455 (the one you have).

They came in black, cherry, wine, and sunburst. Mine is red, I don't know how Ovation defines their cherry and wine but I would say that it's cherry. It came with a black hardshell case with blue lining on the inside, I don't know if that's the orginal case; it seems to fit though.
