I actually don't own an Ovation guitar, but I do own a couple of Hamer guitars. I have bought the last 3 Hamers from my good friend Alpep and I have another on order from him. Since Hamers are made in the loft overlooking the Ovation facility, I thought I'd hang here if it's OK with you guys. Anyway, as I mentioned, Alpep is a good friend and he has been stopping out almost weekly to sit in with me. Al is an excellent player and he really makes his Hamers talk. I have met Miles a couple of times too, and he also is an excellent player. Talk to you all later, John

I told him if he ever decides to let it go to let me have first try at buying it back. That guitar is wild, last Saturday he brought it to the gig and I just sat it on my lap and stared at it for about 5 minutes. Sometimes you look at the hunk of wood and think this will make a good guitar and sometimes you are fooled this time it was a stellar guitar. The guitar Nightwolf is speaking of is a Korina Junior. It is a guitar that is being made for me on a custom/one off basis by the Hamer factory. The sample guitar came out excellent. If you want to see a pic go to my website and look for Hamer junior. Nightwolf Great to see you here. No need to own an Ovation to read the board and contribute and talk music. There are many times we talk about other things than guitars. Nightwolf is a blues singer/player and I sit in with him as often as my screwed up schedule allows. In fact sometimes I think that people think we are together in the act and don't realize that I am just sitting in. He exaggerates about my playing I am merely a hack.

Cliff, Miles and Al, thanks for the welcome guys. I'd just like to say that the finest guitars I've ever played are made at this place in New Hartford Connecticut..... I play out as many as 3 nights a week and I use my Hamers exclusively. I am a believer.

Alpep sits in with Nightwolf only on rare occasions but the mysterious and elusive Al "X" seems from "parts unknown" sits in with Nightwolf on a little more regular basis. both players are hacks IMHO. edited to add that Nightwolf is one of the "good guys"!!!

Any picker that can add anything here is more than welcome. And that leads me to something I've thhought about since Ovation doesn't make any more of our beloved solid bodies, Hamer may be a solution if we want a new solid body. (I can't imagine any of us solid body owners wanting one , but who knows?) Bailey

Sure you can still score one for a few hundred bucks, but they have been averaging close to $1500. The consumer choice would be a 20+ year old import for $1000 - $1500 or a brand new shiney one for $1500 - $2000. I also think a Deacon STYLE guitar similar to my "Messina" Deacon in the gallery, and a Wood top UKII would all sell. Re-issuing the old guitars would be silly, but some of the old designs I think are still valid and would be very viable with the Ovation name on them, and produced from the fine folks at Hamer.

I've seen him play circles around Alpep (but, then I'm gettin' old and my memory is going bad, so it could be the other way around). Bailey, I have 2 Hamer Duotone guitars. Duotones are a hybrid electric guitar that also has an Ovation bridge with the pickup system. With a Duotone, you can use the acoustic bridge pickup, or the electric pickups, or both systems blended together. That is a very cool guitar. I like to run both the acoustic and electric systems into 2 different tube amps and blend them together. I almost bought one of those Ovation solid bodies back in the late 70's / early 80's when they were new. I liked the model with the cutout under the armpit. I actually regret that I hadn't bought one.

My son has or had a Hamer bass that he used in blues type bands, with which he and my grandson (now in Kuwait with the 82nd) put down some good tracks when he was on leave. I say "has or had" as he trades stuff all the time and next time I see him it may have morphed into a PA system for the bluegrass band. Bailey
