Joined: August 2003 Posts: 396 | Now that my search for a 12 string is officially underway, I'm looking at the very top end of my budget. I probably don't want to spend this much, but you know what can happen....). There is about a $100 dollar street difference between the lowest end adamas 12 string and the 6759 custom legend. For you folks who have played them both, how would you describe the UNPLUGGED difference you may have noted? I have reached the conclusion that the plugged sound through my 30 watt amp will be just fine either way. Thanks for any help you can add.

I'm told that the newer Adamas 12's with mid depth bowls are also very good, but I've never played one. I have played the M. Ethridge 12 string and thought it to be very unexciting.

I think they're both incredible guitars. They are both mid depth bowls. Plugged in, for my personal taste in sound, the Custom Legend kicks serious ass, hands down. BUT, I play out solo and in a duo, and I like a deep, full, ballsy sound for the rock music I play. The Adamas sounds really good plugged in, but it's strong point seems to be a sweet mid range sound, rather than bottom end. I get lots of complements from other musicians on this one's sound. I think it would really stand out for me more in a band situation, where I had to cut through the other musicians. I think your choice has to come from your own ears. They are both fantastic, worthy, and gorgeous guitars. You can't really go wrong either way. I've been on the fence about selling my Adamas 12 string for a while now (as mentioned before), as I mostly use it as a backup guitar and it doesn't get as much use. Johnny

Next time I plan on bringing my Custom Legend 12 string(if I don't buy yet another guitar by then)!!!! That was a great time...I can't wait for this year's OFC tour...hope they have a jam planned again. Was so cool to hear so many great players on incredible sounding guitars-was truly an inspiring night. Nice to attach some faces to names and guitars too, and hear some great music! Great memory! Maybe it's time to start a new thread...2nd Annual Ovation Fan Club Convention and Factory Tour. I really wouldn't mind seeing the factory again. Maybe some workshops this year?

Just got the picture from the young lady at Ovation who took it (Thank You, Uncle Al!). I'll post an initial layout with all of the names that I know of (or THINK that I know of), and you can e-mail me (or post) any of the "blanks" that need to be filled in.
