The older I get, the more interested I am in lightweight guitars. I'm wondering if the UKII is really really light- like 7 pounds or less?

Next question is balance. If you were to sit down and hold your UKII in playing position, with no strap, will the neck dive, or stay level without support?

Thanks!

8lbs, well balanced, and the curvy body just makes it more comfortable. The body seems a bit smaller than some

For lightweight, try a Yamaha RGX A2. I've always wanted to pick one up to try out

With the guitar sitting level across your leg without a strap, the neck will look for a lower location.

Yes the neck drops. I tried it last night, but it just took a touch of my arm to keep it level. It seems lighter than my Viper, but I didn't weigh them.

ok, I tried it too, and yep it dives. I guess I've never noticed that before as it's well balanced when on it's strap (unlike a Gibson SG or my V) and that's usually how it is here. Also, when I sit with an electric, it's classical style, lower bout in my lap, neck higher.

Who sits when playing an electric anyway??? Get yerass up off that seat, come down here to Bellevue and bang your head a bit with me sometime.

You can try a couple UKIIs first-hand, and some others too.

Let him try that Peavey first. He'll think the UKII is weightless.

I had trouble getting an accurate weight with mine but 8 lbs sounds right. I find the body so small I always use a strap. I love the sound and playability so I'm happy and don't ever see myself playing another make of solid body.

How the hell would you know- have you ever owned one?

I guess it's mostly old feeble people who noodle on the guitar at home. But you'd want to bang your head against the wall if you heard me try to play. You should get MIB down there to do his Motley Crue thing.

Do you think I'm stupid? You're just a lawyer with a bad hairpiece!

I had trouble getting an accurate weight with mine but 8 lbs sounds right.

For my purposes that would be mid-weight.  My mahogany Deacon is about 9.5 lbs, and at the other end of the scale I have a dinky stratazoid that's a little over 6 lbs.

I've accumulated most of the parts for a DIY UKII, but the neck will need a nut and I'd have to level/crown the frets to get it right.  Maybe I'll bolt it together just to get an idea of the heft and balance.

Thanks for the input.

I've heard you play and you sounded pretty good to me. I know I'm not one to judge. I'm glad I never liked hair bands. I'd be in trouble now. I guess Peter Frampton has transitioned OK, though. I can't believe you guys live so close and never see each other. I was over there the other day and stopped by as I was driving past Damon's house. Or something pretty close to that.

His hair does look strangely familiar...

Good question, thanks for the laugh.
