I'm trying to verify some info on this guitar that is for sale locally. The owner claims he has had it since the early 80's. He says condition is like it just came down off the wall new in a music store. All I can find on them says they were first made in 1991?

This Price Guide sez '89 to '91.
So, he might have had it for 24 years and his memory is fuzzy.

There was a Pinnacle 386T with a pretty laminate torch top- made in Japan in the early 90s.

That's what this one is. He said it was made in Japan and even claimed Glen Campbell played this model! It is very pretty, but a laminate top? I never knew O made one. I'm passing on it for $275.00 no matter how pristine it is.

The 99C was a laminate top. Some of the real purdy tops WERE laminate....

Okay, so I still can't get this guitar out of my mind. It's so darn beasutiful. I have no idea how it sounds yet since it's a three hour drive from me. What I want to know is the general opinion of Japanese O's? Also, how does the laminate top fare unplugged? I rarely ever use amplification except for being mic'd. I'd like to own this on the basis of looks alone but am concerned with how it might sound. The condition described is as basically totally unplayed since new, a case queen. Whaddaya say?

That would be ideal, but it's three hours away. I was only curious about any opinions on the sound of an O with a lammy top before I go there. Also, I was curious as to how many O models were produced in Japan?

Come on, Dave, you live in Texas! How far is 3 hours anyway? Get one of the boys to go with you. Besides what do you have better to do? And by all means, post pics!

just my 2¢ - it might be real purdy but... a laminate top... with a shallow bowl... for mainly unplugged acoustic playing?  gee, I dunno 'bout that.   ymmv

Actually seller says it has deep bowl. Given all I've been reading about lammy tops since finding this I guess I'm gonna pass on it, purdy don't make good tone. Would be gorgeous eye candy hanging on the wall though.

My bad then. All the pics of 386Ts I've seen so far showed 'em with shallow bowls.

If it's a deep bowl, that improves the acoustic playin' picture (imho). I'd imagine that among the lammy tops there are some great ones... and some not-so-great ones. Never gonna know for sure without actually playing it. Tho it does seem a lengthy drive to determine if it's a player or a wall hanger.
