I've lost count of how many times this was, but we once again had the privilege of seeing Guy Clark perform last night, here's a photo I took:

He is a true national treasure. Great lyrics, interesting melodies, and a pretty darn good guitar player too. He had the amazing Verlon Thompson backing him up, of course. Verlon is an extraordinary picker, who has been playing (and writing) with Guy for a long time now.

His final song started out with a line about passing a pawn-shop and spotting a beat-up old guitar on the wall. At first I thought he was singing a post from the OFC… ;)

I thought many of you folks would enjoy that new (yet to be recorded) song, so I tracked down a video of a recent live version:

The Guitar

When he sung the last line, there was a collective gasp from the audience, we were hanging on every word…

The term "craftsman" is over-used, and it is so often applied to Guy Clark that one of his CD collections carries that title. However, IMHO, if there ever is/was/will-be a singer-songwriter that exemplifies craftsmanship, it's Guy Clark. His songs are true works of art, pure poetry set to beautiful music.

That is a scary song!

I "favorite'd" and emailed it to a friend.

Thanx for sharing that!

I wasn't exaggerating in the least, he sung that last line and the entire audience made this simultaneous gasping sound, I have never heard that kind of reaction at a musical performance before…

It just proves that he still writes great songs. I knew that it would appreciated here, glad you enjoyed it…

It's not easy to "talk" a song.
Try it & you'll see.

and... IMHO... this is not OT at all.

AHA!!! If you type "Haunted" guitars in the search box, you will see that in May of 2008, I posted a similar story, and you guys thought I was crazy. I admit, I didn't put it as eloquently as Guy Clark, and my name was NOT on the case. (Come to think of it, it didn't come with a case.) But it is nice to know that I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

I had the great pleasure to hear Music Mike do this on his second try. Awesome job! His voice is perfect for this 'stunner'.

Hopefully he'll post an audio!!!

Yeah, that's a good one for sure. Cruising along OK and then "my name was on the case" kinda nails it.
