If they are good quality jacks I personally love them.
my first 71 Balladeer had one, and the 1115 I had refurbed had one installed when they rebuilt it.
disadvantges are you can't stand them on their butt plugged in in a corner... tho on most O's this would drain the battery.... the 1111 had a passive pickup in it... but the 1115 was redone with FD14 preamp.
I can't think of any disadvantages.

Gall Bladder surgery a success... now waiting on the labs for the other issues.

I like them. What ProfBB says is true but if the cord is in it you have that to keep it from hitting the floor if the strap comes off. And you need to make the hole in the strap much bigger too. |

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | I rarely use a strap. But I do like to use a 90 degree angled plug. So maybe that might aid strap retention...
BTW, my FD-14 is what brought up the question... |

Location: Blacksburg, SC. | Like Beal said, endpin jacks stretch strap holes out too much unless you cut the hole bigger to fit. I'd rather have a separate jack. |

On my nice Murga strap I have two holes, one for the small acoustic buttone and one for the larger Fishman end pin jacks. |

Location: SW Washington | The Ibanez I just sold had the strap peg jack. This particular design of jack was truly awful about failing to hold the strap. The strap was always coming off the peg and I tried several different straps. The guitar was decent, but I was not in love with that particular feature. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | They minimize alterations when putting electronics in valuable guitars; presumably, the ONLY change to a beloved spruce/rosewood guitar would be enlarging the hole for the strap button. Other than that, it's just a little gimic. Most guitars I've used that had one, the strap did tend to come off at bad times. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I have them on several guitars...the new Martin OM PB Custom has one for the Aura...looks great, nicely made, and seems very secure...it has a channel for the strap to fit in and a lip to keep it in place...
Of course Ovation and Adamas have separate jacks and strap pins which is the way to go...
OK, Hang on: (I'm about to dish Taylor's):
The jack on my Taylor 810 w/the expression system just plain sucks...cheap plastic and nothing to prevent the strap from coming off because it is too short...(yeah if you're plugged in the cord will help but I am unplugged a lot)...this could be made a lot better...both of my older Taylor's have very nice jacks/end pin combo's...but I am always nervous w/the 810... |
