Took a couple months of bouncing emails back and forth. He was hoping to sell locally I'm sure. He finally relented and we agreed on a price ($225 shipped). I didn't get a bargain, I KNOW that, but I want it and I'm willing to pay.

It's rough but nothing horrible. I have a new rosette and the loose binding is no problem. The crack in the top will be assessed when it gets here, I'm not going to try and judge it from a grainy photo.

Reminds me of when I used to collect military rifles and I'd score something that had been in a rack in a bunker for 45 years. 90% of the fun is bringing it back into service.

Dumb speculation, but suppose the "serial number" means Dec 15 1982 and it was the 3rd one?

And yes I'm nervous after getting two smaller pieces of a Country Artist delivered instead of one big one. I'm crossing everything I've got.

Congrats on the score.
Protos are funny things, sometimes they're diamonds in the rough, and sometimes there are reasons why they look like that.
I hope yours is the first case.

Cool work. It must a nice feeling to know you can save and then resurrect something that is so close to getting tossed into the dumpster to be lost forever. Way to go.

This one will be a little more of a challenge and I make no guarantee what I will or won't do with the top. I may elect to lacquer it Ford Explorer Green Metallic.

A much sadder \'83
