I had the opportunity to acquire an OP-Pro Studio.
I figured that I would give this a shot.

I don't record nor professionally gig so I wasn't sure if I was just wasting money on another toy...

WOW!

I put this into my 2778LX-4... Ooo!
First I played it with the regular OP-Pro through the MicroCube.
Then I dropped-in the Studio... Suddenly the sound was fuller and more 'open'.
I don't know how to describe it, but it is just better.
So then I put the Studio into the 6778LX to a similar effect.

I just increased the output of all these guitars. (since I only play them one at a time)
I have only played this through the little MicroCube.
When I go out I usually use the CubeStreet which is much fuller sounding.
I look forward to doing this.
I can put the Studio into the Reddish-T and sound like a concert hall! :p

Now I have to figure-out the Expressor and the Drive and the best way to configure this.
(Advice and Recommendations would be appreciated, that is the purpose of this thread)

If anybody sees an OP-Pro Studio on d'Bay and is thinking about it... I recommend it.

Trial and Error?

No... All the OP-Pro's will fit in an OP-Pro Can.
That is the OP-Pro, the Studio, and the VIP-5. (is there one other that I am forgetting?)
Also the iDea will fit into the OP-Pro can, BUT the OP-Pro won't work in the iDea can.

The silver ones... OP11, OP20, OP30, OP40, OP50... are different animals.
They will not swap with the OP-Pro's nor the iDea.
But the cans can be switched without surgery.

BTW--On the OP-Pro Studio, the Tuna mutes when you use it (unlike the OP-Pro).

OMA, the Studio is the shiz for wood topped O's. In my Adamas (and Sara's) it doesn't seem to add much, and I prefer the VIP by a long shot in those.

The manual says to adjust one before the other as far as Expressor and Drive. I believe the order is to turn the little knob until you're happy (I forget which effect that is) and then move the slider. I found that about 40% of each was perfect for the '07C.

XTDream, there are two different connector configurations for the preamps that fit in the kidney can. One has 8 copper tabs, the other has 7. Pull one of the preamps out and look at the bottom of the preamp. You'll see either two parallel rows of 4 tabs (for 8 total), or one row of 4 and another row of 3. Op30 has 7. OpPro, OpPro Studio, and VIP have 8. I'm 99.99% sure iDea has 8 tabs.

Although I cannot find any literature from the factory, I do not believe that the preamps are cross compatible with the other can. i.e. a 7 tab preamp should not go into an 8 tab can, and an 8 tab preamp should not go into a 7 tab can.

The good news is that the cans are swappable in about 30 seconds with a phillips screwdriver. If you buy a preamp from a dealer it will come with the correct can to install if needed.

Is it possible to buy a preamp somewhere separately from guitar? I cannot see them anywhere on Ebay and in the shops.

OMA, I know what you mean. I put the Studio in my Elite-T... Wow, what a difference. I'm still a little sorry I gave away the OP-Pro (it went to another member in need).

Good observations, OMA. For me, I find it difficult to compare various preamps in the signal chain because there are so many other variables that can come into play. I have become so comfortable in shaping my sound with pedals that I just bypass all the EQ on the preamps and run the guitar flat through the chain. This gives me essentially the same neutral sound from various pick-ups and allows greater opportunity to hear the differences between the guitars themselves which I can then modify or shape individually with the pedals. Another member recently posted that he thought the newer 2-knob FET on the Adamas was the best available from Ovation. Personally, I have always really enjoyed the Optima. My feeling is that regardless of the specific type of preamp, if it is working properly and you have the EQ (or the rest of the gear in your signal chain) sorted out properly, the sound will be typically excellent. I have yet to come across a dud in my Ovation and Adamas preamps.

Try alpep at lostartvintage dot com. I have purchased a couple of preamps through him.

Which preamp was it where, in order to use the tuner, you had to have something plugged into the guitar?

VIP and iDEA

I also think that the might have been another, but I know the VIP and the iDEA.
