I have played both - the Viper is far superior in my personal opinion. The tone is more authentic acoustic guitar, sustain is better, feedback is non-existent. Just for comparison, I have also played the nylon version of both Gibson and Viper EA63. The result is the same, Viper wins by a large margin. Lastly, the Gibson is quite heavy and the electronics is really crude.

When one of your complaints is that that they guitars are not made of wood and you make one entirely out of wood Why disguise it with black bowl paint? 3 I have sold steel string, nylon string, bass and 12 string viper. I have a steel string and bass and I much regret selling the nylon and 12.

I have an 1127-4 GC in very nice condtion (recently received from Tony C. and a 1869-5 Custom Legend which is due to arrive on Tuesday from Al to trade. Anyone? I have been bidding on the Ebay Viper but have not yet met the reserve. Jon

'Funky' costs more. ;) These really are rather rare. Far, far less of the colored Ash Top EA68 guitars were made than any one year of the Collectors' Series. Not to mention less than tens of thousands of Gibson SST's, lol.

They are literally a steal at what we're buying them for. I have the spruce top, but saw Paul's blue Tamo Ash and bet it is equally awesome. I can appreciate your "holding" the guitar for your son in Iraq ... my son shipped out yesterday to MCRD in San Diego (in hopes that in 13 weeks he'll get the official nod as one of the few, the proud) and I am "holding" his FlameKat and his J200. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the FlameKat mysteriously wound up with a set of TV Jones pickups in place of the mini-humbuckers it has now. ;) I'm with Al on the bowl paint thing. I can appreciate them keeping the branding thing going, but why hide that mahogany? Maybe I'll ping customer service on doing a refinish for me ... they did a great job on my mahogany 1271 Viper and if could look anything like that ...
