Location: us | Anyone tried the Elixir NanoWeb "Phosphor Bronze" strings yet? I have hated Elixirs with a passion until I was given a set of these in light gauge and I have to say they sound realy great on my 1771LX. not so well on the D-28 but they give the "O" more bottom end. IMO they sound as great as the Poly Web's sound at sucking. LOL |

| I used nano's some on my Legend, sounded bright for a while...better than the poly's, but I also tried rohrbacher's and they lasted longer than elixirs... |

D'Addario EJ26 11-52
D'Addario EJ16 12-53
I always come back to the EJ16's. These things just SING! without sounding robotic on the A and D like alot of others. Nice clear but mellow treble strings too. I think they have a smoother transition between strings too. All strings sound somewhat similar in timbre/tone.
Runners up would be the Martin SP's or DM Alchemy's. I hated the Polywebs and really, really hated the DR's. DR's had no sustain, it was like "pluck---dead" ... nasty.

| The nano's are brighter but fade, the poly's are not as bright but last longer.. give the Rohrbacher's a try, they've got treated, nickle and bronze...(but their not cheap..) |

I had tried quite a few other brands before (but not Elixirs), and aways went back to the Martin Marquis. I tried my first set of Elixir nanoweb lights on my UTE about 9 weeks ago. Usually I get a month or so out of the Martins. These Elixirs still sound fresh and bright. That alone covers the extra cost.
One thing in my favor is that my hands tend to be dry and chemically nuetral. |

Location: us | I've tried many other brands also. I was not expecting the Nano's to sound so well. I use coated strings to slow down the effects of my sweaty fingers,these seem to sound better than the EXP's I normaly use.The EJ-16's sound better, but I kill those in a week.Two weeks is good for me on strings. Steve, Rohrbacher will be the next set I try, thanks for the heads-up. clear-tones are good also...just hard to find. This is getting away from my topic, but can you guys tell me if Ovation tops are a little more convexed than other guitars? I just noticed all mine are higher arched and It concerns me a little. Before I added a humidifier to my home I killed a Gibson Songbird and payed a fortune to have it repaired. My D-28 is fairly tough, but it will break my heart if one of these O's suffers the same fate as some of the photo's I've seen floating around,especialy after I transported all three to a friends house resently. He had his fireplace roasting to the point my eyes were drying out. :eek:

I should note here that I have absolutely no financial interest in webstrings. I just like 'em and think they're a terrific bargain - so, I try to get everyone I know to try a set.
They have an anti-corrosion coating, sound better than any of the Elixirs I've tried (and I have used a LOT of Elixirs, both poly and nanoweb) and you can get 5 or 6 sets for what you would pay for the rohrbachers. Plus if you buy $12.00 or more you don't pay shipping (much less tax). Go to www.webstrings.com and check 'em out. |
