I've only seen this model at the Guitar Center. It's very tempting but I would prefer to deal elswhere if it might be available. This is a cedar top S-771.

Does anyone know if the "GC" designates that it was only made to be sold through Guitar Center? I can't find the cedar top S=771 on the Ovation website. Thanks.

Yes, it is a Guitar Center only model. The model number on the one I have is GCS771-C. Don't know what the "K" means. I've never seen one designated that. There are two flavors, though, the older ones from earlier last year do not have truss rod covers, the newer ones do.

Thanks Roger.

I wonder what the connection is that Ovation has with Guitar Center and why they would make specific models for them? I would guess it's purely the number that they sell.

How do you like yours? Can you make a good deal with them or are they solid on their prices?

Thanks

Alot of guitar companies make GC(or other distributor)-specific models. "Stroking".

I think it's the other way around. The big customer goes to the supplier and asks for a special model only for the big customer. And, the supplier makes it. Why wouldn't they?

yoch, I got a deal on mine because I am a regular and the acoustic room guy knows it, but I wouldn't PLAN on a deal. If you can get it for under $700 WITH the original case, you done good. The cedar is the same price as the regular spruce-top S771, from what I have seen.

I think dmkozak has it right, manufacturers like to make big customers happy.

just a remark as I don't much about this particular guitar

Cedar tops are on some of the best classical guitars, Ovation cedar top guitars have been very well reviewed on this site.

If you can get one for a reasomable price, I would sure reccomend it as it probably wil truly be a collector's item.

fugot, the S771-4 on the link is the regular spruce-top Balladeer, not the cedar-top. Cedar top is GCS771-C and appears to be Guitar Center only.

The S771-4 IS a nice guitar, but not what yoch is looking for.

No, wait!

I just came back from GC in Tacoma. There are two of them at $699 ech.
I played one and it has a delicious sound and feel. Very nice flavor of ice cream.

Also pulled down an overpriced - used - ME 12 string that felt amazing and sounded great too.

Mike, I have one of each flavor; both of those ice creams are less filling and taste great!!!! :D

$699 is the price I have always seen at our local GC for the cedar-top S771.
