So what are the factory specs and what gauges do most people tend to use for the following: 1978 Preacher Stereo, Mahogany body, with ebony fretboard, 1980 UKII 1978 Preacher Deluxe 12-string Mahogany, with active electronics. I believe I am stringing them on the light side with 009's. And I can't really find any factory recommendations. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, G-Rob

I had previously had a set of Ernie Ball Light top, heavy bottoms that started with .010 and went up to .057 equavalent to 1/2 light gauge and 1/2 medium to heavy. The significance is that I had to readjust the intonation and action. There is no factory recommended gauge.

Originally, the preacher was delivered with "2E extra light nickel wound" strings (12E for the 12 strings). But i don't know anything about the brand or the exact gauge!! I keep searching. The lighter gauges are easier to bend, but for tone, go with heavier strings. 10's make a good compromise.

Used them from 1977 to 1990 (I had a case of them) before I found out they stopped making them sometime in the 80's I recently found a stash of them and couldn't be happier. The specs are that Stainless Steel Wound. .010 .013 .016 .027 .038 .047 I also like, GHS Boomers. I made a hybrid set of these and actually like this setup also. .009 .011 .016 .026 .036 .046

If I can't find these then the regular lights .012-.053. I also have a Takamine G-series that I keep .012's on tuned to open E most of the time. Rick
