Joined: March 2005 Posts: 17 Location: delmenhorst, germany | hi you all, i have a problem in finding out how old the breadwinner is that i just bought on ebay. the serial number says E 00090. so it is maybe early '75. but it has nylon saddles and the big pick ups. resonator is selling his pre '75 breadwinner on ebay now with a 4 digit serial number but small pick ups and brass saddle. on baron audio is written: 2 high-output double-coil humbuckers with 12 individual 3/16" magnets wired in series with 10,000 winds per coil. (Early Breadwinners had Toroidal Single Coil pickups with 12 individual magnet poles, 6 rectangular permanent mounted and 6 adjustable. Patented adjustible tri-mount and: Standard Ovation with Brass plate and saddles adjustible for action and intonation with Patented adjustible tri-mount. (Early Breadwinners had Nylon Saddles) what does "early breadwinner" mean exactly? thanks for helping. oli

There are a couple of other details like a narrower headstock on early ones also. If you look in the reference section, that E + 5 digit serial number states Feb of 1975 and as it has 90 as the last two digits.... you are probably safe in assuming it's from early 1975.

It has single coils, jack on the pickgard, Brass saddles, no Ovation logo on the head stock, and the strap button is under the neck. Eccept for the back of the neck the white finish is bumpy. I had never sean another breadwiner or deacon except a book I have showing A breadwinner pickup (single coil), that must be in a deacon.
