Joined: August 2005 Posts: 122 Location: toneville USA | i just got back from GC and played a 1778LX, there was a 1mm gap where the fretboard lays on the soundboard, just south of the neck joint, on the bass side that was about 4-5mm long going alog side the FB. basically, the FB wasn't touching the soudndboard below the neck joint, and also at the very end of the FB where the frets narrow for just the top 2 strings. is this a defect? or do they just not lay flat on the top on the ones without the center soundhole?

I have an elite 12 that you could store your drivers license under the fretboard. On my adamas u681 the fretboard appears totally and solidly glued to the top. And then all variations in between. If you go th the Ovation website and look at the LX tour, then click on "photo gallery" and look at the last screen of photos...you'll see how the neck support block is set into the body of the guitar. How the fingerboard extention sits in relation to the top is not an important consideration in this new design.
