Dick Clark died today of a heart attack at 82. He is remembered as the perpetual teenager...and introduced much of the music we grew up with (if you're older than 30). RIP Dick...

He'll be forever hooked to American Bandstand where he introduced a lot of the afternoon viewing teen world to rock and roll in the 1950s and 60s. I think a lot of the YouTube clips of vintage R&R acts came from his shows.

R.I.P. Dick

His signature sign-off:

"For now, Dick Clark... so long." (with a salute)

He also gave exposure to some of the more "underground groups" that would have never seen the light of day without appearing on his show. A true icon that will be missed.

when I was a kid American bandstand was on for 3 or 4 hours in the afternoon. my mom would sit me in my play pen and turn on the tv and rock and roll would baby sit me for the afternoon. Along with cowboys, american bandstand is one of the reasons I play guitar.

btw when he first opened them the American Bandstand restaurants were great.... they like so many other things went down the tubes.

Don't forget his New Year's Eve shows that he hosted for decades. He was involved in a lot of things.

True Mark but I could never watch him do that gig after the stroke. Too sad to watch....and I know many others felt the same way.

I had forgotten about that. I usually had to switch to another channel rather than watch him struggle to talk. I am sure he wanted to keep doing it and it was probably good therapy for him, but it's just hard to watch when the world's oldest teenager finally ages.

I feel lucky to have spent time with Mr. Clark on a couple of productions. He really was as he seemed... unpretentious, kind, and totally professional.
So long, Mr. C.
RIP
