So here I was thinking only the 1778T's had that slimmed down neck that my little hands appreciate so much, when yesterday I run into a used Adamas W597-4G and decide to fiddle with it. Much to my surprise, it has the same slimness as the 1778T! None of the Elite LX guitars I tried have them, nor do a couple of the other A's I've tried (one of them the 1781S).

Ovation held out on me when I emailed them the question I now pose to all of my OFC family:

What Adamases have the same slimmed down profile neck as the 1778T? (they said "only the Elite 1778T has that neck, and this is clearly not true)

(And is the difference the "c" neck versus the "v" neck? Which is which? I can't tell! All I know is, the nut width on both the slim and non-slim necks are the same. I measured them. It's clearly a question of the back of the neck).

Sorry, guys! LOL I meant to edit, and instead I quoted myself. (How do you delete, anyway? I see an Edit button but no delete button)

No delete. We used to have trolls come in and start fires, then delete their posts. So Miles disabled deleting and put a time limit on edits.

I don't know about now, but when I worked there I inspected a lot of necks. They were ALL different. Some were thicker, some were thinner, some had a more pronounced V. It didn't matter which model they were going on. I would get a whole bunch of Balladeer necks and check them for flaws, but every one of them had a different feel. As a matter of fact, I was talking to Karen last week about that. She likes a slimmer, non-V neck too. I told her that out of all my O's and A's, my old 1617 with the K-bar has the slimmest neck! Conventional wisdom says that should not be the case, and that the ones with the truss rod cover should be slimmer. I think you need to try out as many of the same model as you can and compare.

Yeah, it is the back of the neck that will either have a C shape or be a little more "pointed" in the middle with a slight V shape. The theory is that the V shape makes it easier to do bar chords. As a matter of fact, the old Gurian company made guitars with necks that were not symetrical. The back of the neck was thicker on the treble side. They did this for the same reason, and after playing all three, I agree that bars seem a bit easier on the V's and unsymetrical necks.

Thank you SO much for confirming my suspicion! The good news is, I don't have to drive myself crazy trying to find which models have it and which don't. The bad news is, I just have to try them all in person, which is REALLY bad news, considering the thinning out of O's and A's at the guitar stores down here :-/

Thanks, at least, for the closure! Much appreciated :-)

Takamine, at least on their higher-end series, deliberately use asymmetrical necks for that reason. That was spec'd out by Mike Markure, who claims it's easier for his beefy hands. My Taks are a joy to play.

Joe, all you need to do is go visit Trader Jim and try out all of his guitars. When you find the one you like, rest assured that eventually, it'll be for sale! ;)

Oh, I did, a couple of months ago. Why do you think I'm suddenly hunting for an Adamas? ;-)
