Hi,
I'm trying to sell my Ovation model 6773 Country Artist Guitar. It's in great shape. Originally cost about $1750 I think. I'm hoping to get around $950. (No case included.)

I've sold many guitars on Craig's list but noone seems interested in this one. No responses from the Ovation club either. Ebay may be my last resort, but I don't really like to sell on ebay.

Any advice from all you Ovation players? Does my price seem unreasonable,( I will bargain.)

Thanks,
Rex

Personal opinion, and btw I've owned a 6773 and I've also sold many guitars on ebay.

1. Selling without a case is a big turn off. You should buy a used case yourself for $75. and you will definately get more than $75. extra for the guitar.

2. A non-classical nylon string guitar is not in very high demand. lots of steel string players would like to have one just for the odd occasion when they could use it but they aren't likely to part with $1000. for one.

3. A price of $500. (or $650 with case) would seem more realistic to me. I bought mine in 9.9+ condition with case for under $600. You may get lucky and find someone who MUST HAVE this particular model.

Good luck with the sale.

Dave

Dave is absolutely right. You should get a case.
$950 is unrealistic. On eBay you'll probably get between $500 and $550.

Yup, under $600 with OHSC.

Run a comparable check on Ebay.

Thanks for the helpful advise.
I haven't been able to find any 6773's on ebay though. Do all ovation's resale price go down so much, or is it just that particular model?

Thanks again,
rex

I think the guys are right. $500 - $600 with OHSC.

They are a great guitar just the demand is low right now. Some of the older 1624 with high starting bids are getting Zero bids.

Here's an example;
ebay 1624 second listing.

There were a bunch of 1973 1624s on ebay awhile ago. $350 seemed to be the average price. Yours is much newer, but people seem to pay more for "vintage" on ebay. That's why you see so many guitars listed as vintage. There does seem to be steeper depreciation for the nylon string Ovations than for others.
By the way, the one GGG linked incorrectly identifies the 1624 as a Josh White. The Josh White was reintroduced as the Folklore. I still get the model numbers confused even when I own them.

Me Too! :D

I just paid $400 for my 1624 a few weeks ago.

I do think a mint condition 6773 could fetch a bit more.

The pre Amp should be a newer version which for some players would be an advantage. Also the cutaway.

The #6773 is worth considerably more, imho, than the older nylon string models if the buyer is going to be plugging it in.

A weaker dollar heats up the foreign market, too, so get a case and be willing to ship overseas and you may get a pretty good price for it.

There are 2 depth cases, one for a supershallow bowl, and one for the mid depth and deep bowls. Use the later. Call customer service and they can tell you the model number (9150?).
