Hi, my name is Jeff Power. I have a 1981 1617 that I need to sell. I have no idea as far as value goes. The guitar is in great, but not excellent shape. The only imperfections are two small finish only cracks right by the bridge, and it is missing the control knob.

Somewhere on this site I read that these guitars are generaly worth what they sold for new. That would place value at about $795., is this correct? Thanks for your help.

Jeff, that might be a little high. I don't want to be a "price police" but I just thought I'd give you a heads up. The knobs are not a problem as you can get them from the factory cheap. The cracks are not a big issue, but they ARE an issue non the less. Check Ebay for the same model. That is probably the best "market value" test you will find. Nice color aging on the top!

Jeff - welcome to the board. I just sold a 1978 vintage 1617 in sunburst for $565 on eBay. You might be able to get a bit higher, but like trader Jim (and I don't want be the price police, either) I think near $800 might be a little out of reach. It is a nice looking guitar!

I am by no means thinking $795. I just want to ask a fair price.

Keep checking on ebay and a few other sites and see what they're going for. The market seems to fluctuate. g8r's sold pretty fast, so maybe he was a little low.

In your ebay listing you mentioned that the electronics aren't working. Check the battery for the preamp. that may be all that's needed. Working electronics will help the bidding activity.

I did check the battery. My guess would be dirty contacts. Honestly I don't feel like dealing with it. Do you think $400 is t steep without the electronics?

My opinion is worthless, since I won't be a buyer, but you seem to be in the ballpark. Your timing might be poor, since the Christmas presents have all been bought, but maybe someone got some cash for Christmas and is looking to spend it. Some people want a big discount for lack of electronics, but others don't want the electronics.

The people not looking for electronics prefer the solid saddle for better tone.

Ok I lowered the reserve and the starting bid. I would really like to sell this, I've got an old VW bus I need some parts for. So click here and place a bid.
