[You can use the money you save to get some real Ovation tuners and paint it black-burst!] Those are the original Schaller nylon bodied tuners for that year. and the Barnbursts are pretty rare.

Location: NW Washington State | I look at Viper auctions regularly on eBay. I don't need one, but it's one of my saved searches. I wouldn't jump at the chance to buy this one at this price. This configuration shows up every month or two and often sell for much less than the opening bid on this one.

eBay history only gives us 2 or 3 weeks unlike the old days when you could look much further back. I put a couple of Vipers on my watch list every week. With patience you can get a decent two pickup Viper in any color/wood/bridge combo (except maybe red or Woody surf green) for $450 +/- a little. If you have to have a mint collector's example to take pictures of, or simply must have one right away, it'll cost you more. So I wouldn't pay $649 for one, but maybe someone else would.
I'm a bottom feeder and would like to find a complete beater for parts. Seems like people go nuts over the beaters and bid them up into the same range as much nicer looking ones. So I'll probably never buy another!

Yes, eBarf has cheated us on the history capability!
I wasn't casting stones at ya. It's just that in the past the really nice Vipers were few and far 'tween out there.
Times have changed and I'm contemplating this 'un... |
