Joined: November 2006 Posts: 217 Location: Snåsa, Norway | Got inspired for this post from a recent thread on 12-string tuning. I've been tuning my guitar by different methods, starting with ear and tuning adjacent strings from 6 to on by frets 5-5-5-4-5, then got a digital tuner and used that almost exclusively for a long time. Lately, I started using "all E's", tuning all strings after the first string finding the E on following frets: 2nd-5, 3rd-9, 4th-14, 5th-7(harmonic) and 6th-5(harm.). I think my guitars sound better with this tuning method, since I use the same reference note for all strings. I also believe it's much easier to tune by ear this way, for the same reason. I use my tuner less, and only as a benchmark to check my ear, so it's actually a bit of ear training as well (and I grasp eagerly after any means to improve my tonal hearing, which at best is only average!). Anyone else with views on the best way to tune guitars?

G string would be driven off the low E. Main thing was to get the B string in tune with the D so that D chords sounded right. Now, I'm just another tone deaf digital tuner user.
