I was just wondering which people prefer. A gloss finished neck, a Satin finished neck, or a raw oiled and waxed neck. I prefer Gloss finished myself.

Actually I prefer the neck to start out gloss then wear it down a bit using toothpaste. Makes it feel like a very old guitar you've had for years and years.

How can I really tell what kind of neck my guitar has?

I have a 12 string c.legend(2002) and a celebrity deluxe(1997).

Gloss, I am not a fan of the sating finish necks at all. I guess because I grew up playing gloss necks..Paul Hebert

I prefer satin. Just like on a good pool cue, nothing feels quite like it.

Pool = Billiards or maybe even that wimpy Snooker game for you folks across the creek :)

Until you mentioned the pool cue, I had no idea what an oiled neck might feel like. I had a sudden revelation as I recall handling a few of those in the Poway bars, there were rumors of big money games in that little town, I made and lost a few bucks. Billiards were not played there that I know of, but I'm sure a proponent of such a variation would have been welcome if he had money to put on the line. I still prefer a gloss neck as that's all I've ever played and I'd hate to find myself trying to hit a cue ball with a $2000 Adamas because of repressed memories.

You haven't lived until you've lost to a guy playing with a mop handle, with the mop still attached. It taught me the cardinal rule of pool. "No matter how good you are, there is someone in the room that can beat you, the key is to recognize them, and get out before its too late."
