Hi everyone! (new member) enjoy reading through the forums, I have a question of my own.

Does anyone know the reasoning on why the earlier models of the Adamas 1597 used the Thin line CP-100 pickup that is found on the Celebrity and Applause models of the same period?

In all the info we read on the most common Hi-Output Ovation pickup with it's 6 individual crystals and increased string to string performance and headroom etc, well it is common on all the Adamas and Ovations so it seems odd (to me anyway) that it is omitted at first on this high end model. I notice by 2003 (perhaps earlier) the 1597 has the Hi-Output pickup installed after all, so a change of approach there.

The reason I'm curious is I am considering buying a '98' Adamas 1597 with the thin line pickup and optima pre-amp. I have a Celebrity 12 string that has the thin line pickup and enjoy it but I do notice the difference from my friends Ovation Elite with an OP-24 and Hi-Output pickup. I realise I'm comparing a 6 with a 12 string, but i only mean comparing the fidelity/accuracy of the electrified sound. Has anyone heard a comparison of these Adamas guitars plugged in?

But my W597T guitar is the "cousin" of the 1579 and it has a CP-1000 Tru-Balance pickup.
The Tru-Balance is a little bit wider and has a "stepped" saddle.

But, if your Adamas Does have a CP-100 "Thinline" saddle... Those are still good pickups.
They were designed after the "Original Patented Pickup".

Also, because the slot is thinner than the Original Patented Pickup you can put another pickup in there.
Fishman, LR Baggs, Artec, or whatever you have lying in your junk drawer.

I am swithering on to buy or not and when I realised they had changed the pickup from CP-100 to Tru-Balance then to Hi-Output with a 6 year period, it just seemed odd to me? I'm sure they are all great pickups with perhaps the pre-amps mattering more to the sound? But why the constant change?
This guitar for sale is quite pricey I think at $2088 equivalent, I am also considering a textured topped 1681-2 for around the same money so just wanted to be sure and get the best sounding model I can afford.

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR		Oh, if you have a choice of a Textured-top or an SMT, you go with the Textured-top.
If you have a choice between a Black SMT and a RED Textured-top...
You should Definitely get the Red Textured-top.

Location: Glasgow		I have read and heard often OMA that the textured tops sound the best, is it not that they just sound different? I would love to hear a Pepsi challenge with similar sized bowls and same strings and same player/tune
I had to laugh why 'definitely' if it is red? Is red a rarer colour or really sought after?

Location: moline,illinois		1681 over 1597 unless you really want a cutaway
The 1681 has the deep bowl with the AST(adamas suspension top) and is a lot more resonant and powerful
I had a 1597,nice guitar very clean notes great for fingerstyle but not as good as my 1681-8
Red over black,red is a rarer color plus red guitars are just cooler,ask anyone here LOL
PLus the price for the 1597 does seem a little high although adamii are hard to come by in glasgow I imagine

Location: Glasgow		Thanks for the input 2WD. You are so right these guitars are hard to come by in Scotland (none for sale). The guitars I am referring to in this thread are within England. I will post photos after making my choice between the two, the 1597 is described as in 'incredible' condition, with the 1681-2 in 'very good' condition. We'll see.
Thanks for the info on the AST, I must do a bit more reading on these earlier models.

Red is certainly a major player on the forum...ah! 'the lady in red'. I'll be expecting big things from this 1681-2 if I clinch the deal, if I'm worthy? probably not.

Location: Glasgow		Hi again everyone reading this thread. Opted for the 1681-2, beautiful guitar experimenting with different types of strings, tried Martin 80/20 bronze 13's now going to try D'Addario EJ24 Phosphor Bronze they are 13's also but strings 3,4 and 5 are lighter to make a DADGAD tuning set (see how it goes). Any input on what strings can sound the best on this guitar is appreciated, I'd imagine all strings sound good right enough

Location: moline,illinois		Congrats on the new guitar she should make you very happy I love the red she's a beauty!!!
I use D'addario phosphor bronze on most of my 6 strings but there are quite a few other options.
Many on here like the Thomastik Infeld strings pricey but great sounding
I've used the DR Veritas strings before long lasting maybe a little darker in tone
Ernie Ball makes an Aluminum Bronze set that punches up the low and high end that are interesting
Lots of choices out there try a few and go with the ones that sound good to your ears
