Hi Ohbi.! Welcome to the OFC. I live in Japan too (Kanagawa area), glad to have you join us in English. You're right, if you're looking for a new Celebrity in Japan, you are limited in your choices, but you can get the CE44P with Quilted, Spalted or Tiger Eye Maple. They are all Spruce/Maple laminates. The Collector's Series 2078AXP (Elite style) and 2079AXP (Balladeer style) guitars can be with a variety of Maple grains, but they are considerably more expensive. Good luck with your search!

So far as I know, all of the maple-topped models were laminates, event he 1998 Collector's. I had a solid top model built as a custom, but John Budny at the factory couldn't recall any others.

Good luck with your search. Let us know what you find and don't forget pictures!

Your English is coming through perfect! On the other hand, what Arumako wrote... uh... not so well.
However, it did inspire me to go out for teppanyaki dinner tonight :-)

And good luck on your search. Please let us know how it turns out! Always interested in international Ovationism!
(sorry.. you probably won't find that word in ANY dictionary)

Rough translation:
"Hey, these guys go around playing their guitars in grass skirts and coconut bras. Get yourself a Taylor or a Martin and get as far away from this place as possible...
See you later!"

Naw! Just kidding... I just mentioned that the OFC system doesn't allow for Japanese IME, but if he wanted to write in Japanese phonetically (Romaji), I'd be glad to help.

By the way, how was the teppanyaki Love O Fair? I had Sukiyaki for dinner tonight! My wife is an awesome cook!

Oh man, I hope I didn't scare "Ohbi." away...Gomen nasai!

For older Ovations, you could look around HERE from 2005.

Or Here from 2012.

This is from the internet Archive or "Wayback Machine" so some of the links may not work.
But it will give you an idea of what to search for in the USED market for Maple-topped Ovation.

Like Patch said all Maple tops are laminated with spruce. Here are some additional links at the "Ovation Tribute" web site. The links are to Japanese Brochures so you should be able to read them.
