Location: Seacoast NH | This struck pretty close to home (my office is 5 miles from downtown). I've cheered people on from the finish line many times myself, its a wonderful event that celebrates the skills of athletes from nearly every country on earth, and this is just incomprehensible... Besides the face-value horror of the attack itself, it transpired on Patriot's Day here in Massachusetts. Patriot's Day celebrates the turning-back of British forces at Lexington and Concord by various town militias, the "Minute Men." The day begins with a reenactment of that famous battle at the "rude bridge that arched the flood", before the start of the marathon in Hopkington and an annual morning Red Sox home game at Fenway. It's a holiday in Boston, and has the air of a huge community party. It's a rite of Spring, a day many Bostonians look forward to all winter. The overriding feeling in the air is of hope, renewal, the communal joy of surviving winter and coming together to show off our fair city to the world. Boston is a small city, and never smaller or more like a single neighborhood than on Marathon Monday. But even though they tried to attack us on a day that celebrates our Patriotism, fondness for peaceful international athletic competition, and love of America and our little city, they just don't understand these are not things you can damage. We saw Boston PD, FD, and paramedics running TOWARDS the bomb blasts ready to take action, citizens running over to provide first aid and help carry the wounded to help (former NE Patriot Joe Andruzzi being one of the first to leap the fences and help out, go Pats!), doctors and nurses rushing to their facilities and working straight through the night to help the seriously wounded, lines to donate blood running around the block, etc. The wounded will recover, the grieving will mourn and remember, and the city of Boston will move on as strong or stronger than before. We will still celebrate Patriots Day and the athletic and community spirit every spring. You did not beat us.

....our Marathon
Bostonians are rightly proud of our Marathon.
It is a uniquely American event which opens its arms to the world.
Any and all are welcome: men and women, able-bodied and disabled, young and old across the races and religions of the planet.
That anyone could target this celebration of global family is impossible to conceive.
Our hearts ache for the injured innocents; and we are so grateful and proud of our first-responders, our President, our Governor and Mayor for their calm strength and leadership in this tragic time.

Location: Seacoast NH | Amen. JT is a real class act. I was lucky enough to see him perform the Star Spangled Banner at a Sox game one year, and he put a fantastically unique "James Taylorish" spin on it. Beautiful fingerstyle arrangement along with his super calming voice. Great stuff. |

Seems like there is a LOT of discussion on the net on other venues where that discussion belongs. Personally, I don't think there is anything to discuss yet. It happened, at this point any discussion is speculation but we know we are NOT happy about what happened, they will find who did it, and Boston will tidy things up and be back to business in no time.... cause that's how they do things there.
I'm guessing, maybe one or two songs will come out of this and maybe those will help heal the wounds too.

Stonebobbo, the hair in that Boston picture is surprisingly tame for them. Ever see the band shot on the back cover of the first album? Holy cow that was some crazy '70s hair! |
