I have an older ultra in mint condition for the 33 years young that she is, except one thing. High E string at the seventh fret isn't completely dead but it pings like it is. now the 6th and 8th fret are clear and fine but the seventh no good. any advice would be great, thanks

First, Welcome...

Just thinking out loud, it might be that the eighth fret is just a tad high.
While we are waiting for someone who knows what they are doing to answer,
You could take you thumb and push down really hard on the eighth fret.

If it turns-out the the seventh fret is worn-down too low... I don't know what you would do.
But there are Luthier-types here who can fix anything.

that's the thing this guitar has almost no wear on the guitar it's almost like the previous owner never played it, I have a twin that's about 19 years old and I beat the hell out of it, that has wear. but it's really weird.

I was looking at a 1615 that has the same problem with the treble E at the 11th fret. The seller says the string is dead. No problems anywhere else.

The eighth fret is probably lifting a little. You could try supporting the neck from behind with substantial padding, then take a rubber hammer and LIGHTLY tap at the eighth fret under the E string. I bet that'll take care of the problem.

There apears to be no lifting, also it's only that string on that fret everywhere else on the guitar up and down the neck is fine.

Take a straight edge and lay it with the midpoint on the 7th fret under where the high E string would be. See if any of the frets are high or low. That's the only way I can see if the frets are uneven, but I have bad eyesight. If you still can't tell what's causing the dead string, take it to a luthier.

Guitars often come right from the factory with uneven frets; so wear doesn't always indicate the problem. I've had a couple of new Martins that had uneven frets as well. It's usually the culprit when it comes to strings not ringing true somewhere, that, or as Canterbury Strings said, a loose fret.

Drift punch and a 3lb ball-peen hammer oughta do it!

I know it sound easy to you guys, but I had to finally take a slide hammer to remove and swap hardware on a couple of my les pauls and I cringed, this guitar is damn near as old as me it's one of my babies.
