| Welcome to the board, ironcityaaron. Probably the closest you'll be able to date your guitar is between Nov 1967 (serial # 1000) to July 1968. After July, they went to a 3-digit number after a letter prefix.
The pictures you tried to include didn't show up in your post, because the pictures have to be hosted on a server accessible via a url. This thread gives detailed instructions on how to post pics on this board, and we'd all love to see pictures.
In answer to your other post, value is a tricky subject. The dollar value of any guitar is what one person is willing to accept for it and another person is wiling to pay for it. These are intangibles that change often. Right now all guitars are undervalued because of the slow economy.
A good rule of thumb for Ovations (which aren't prized by most wood box owners, even 'tho we know better) is that whatever the guitar sold for new is what a very good-to-excellent condition one would fetch today. In other words, if it retailed for $700 in 1970, it would probably sell for about that amount today, even 'tho in today's dollars the equivalent new cost would be over $2300. You can get a price list from the reference section of this site to get an idea. |

| Looks nice - trapezoid bridge, ebony fretboard. Those old Deluxe Balladeers eventually became the Legend series, known as tone monsters. Nice guitar & nice piece of history you have there. How's the overall condition (finish cracks, fretboard & fret wear, etc.)? |

It was actually the Model 7 Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeer that morphed into the 1117 Legend. The Model 2 Deluxe Balladeer got diamond shaped inlays and became the 1112 Custom Balladeer.
All the old shiny bowls sounded great. Wish they never dicked around with those original bracing patterns. Sure the tops cracked like hell and the 5 point bridges wouldn't stay put. But damn they sure sounded nice.
Price of the Deluxe Balladeer in 1968 was $299. list.

Location: Germany | It's interesting that the first 1117 models where called "Deluxe Balladeer" (in 1970 catalog, numbered K-1117) and "Legend" (1972 catalog). They had the fretboard ivory binding of the "GC Deluxe Balladeer" but still the same inlays of the original "Deluxe Balladeer". So it looks like they merged the DB and GC-DB to the Legend model.
I agree, it's a pity they permanently experimented with the bracing patterns of these guitars. In the end they found an excellent solution with the A bracing pattern they introduced with the Custom Legend and later adopted to the Legend.

Location: Jet City | I don't have a pic of those at the moment, but yeah, early schallers I believe. They look like schallers, but the mounting screw hole is in a different spot than my other guits with schallers.
I'll take a snapshot later.
Anyway, didn't mean to hijack this thread, but I don't think I paid much more than the 1970 retail price for it, if I paid that. |
