While I have an extreme reluctance to apply any type of peel and stick device to my gorgeous Balladeer, I would like to be able to play it sitting without needing to wear the strap because of its tendency to slip in my lap. So does anybody know where to acquire one? I searched on eBay for every conceivable combination of keywords pertaining to it with no luck. A link to a supplier would be most appreciated.

There are lots of things people have tried, from a device especially made for this purpose, to those non-slip pads on a roll that you can buy at any store. (usually in the kitchen section - some people use it as shelf liner.) But the best advice I could give you is just learn to sit differently, and stop pressing on the lower bass bout with your right arm - not only does it cause your guitar to slip, but it kills the sound.

It's nearly unnoticeable and works perfectly. It comes in different widths; I get the widest one and cut it to the desired shape (with my wife's best sewing scissors, of course). I know you're reluctant to "stick" anything on your guitar, but it really is almost invisible and works better than anything else.

I honestly don't grasp how pressing on the lower bout can be avoided, but I must be accomplishing it somehow as my sound rings like a bell. My waistline isn't a problem either. I was under the impression there was an actual product of this nature made for/by Ovation to alleviate slippage. Guess I was wrong.

However, I do support the "hold it properly" crowd. The Standing Ovation basically forces this posture (as do the contour bowl Ovations). Is your upper leg parallel with the floor? If not, rest your foot on something - classical guitarists have a special little footrest, but a phonebook will work just as well. Is the face of the guitar perpendicular to the floor? If not, this is the main reason for slippage (IMHO), and is the point other posters made about leaning on the upper bout. If you can see the fretboard when you're playing, you're tilting the guitar back. This also makes your left hand action more awkward.

It was talked about in several threads and if you do an exhaustive search I am sure you can find the original thread with the name etc. Seems to me that several of us received samples of this product for free.

Box 356 Oakmont, PA 15139 Helped my super shallow 12 + the little Trekker sit a little more securely on my thigh. They are suede leather/adhesive backing. You have to search d'bay to find them. They usually show up in the last pages when I search "Ovation Guitars". No web site.
