I am the original purchaser of an Ovation 1651 stereo acoustic guitar. I bought it new in March of 1982. I have pretty much shifted to playing mandolin and violin, and I made a deal with my wife that I could buy a new mandolin if I retired my guitar. Our house is full of musical instruments, so it was not an unreasonable request. It would be nice to see this guitar end-up in the hands of someone who could enjoy it as much as I have over the years. Thus, I have come to the OFC first.

It has a dark nutmeg finish, cream binding, gold tuners, a mono jack, a stereo jack and an ebony fretboard. I have kept it in the original hardshell case when not in use. In the last 27 years, I think only 2 or 3 other pairs of hands have beeen on this instrument. My guitar playing has always been a solitary exercise, so it has rarely been plugged into an amplifier. I replaced the 9 volt battery this morning, and gave it a test run connected to a Loudbox acoustic amplifier...It sounded great.

If anyone shows interest, I will try to take some pictures during the next few days.

I found current listings on E-Bay for a 1981 model for $749. I am asking $699 plus shipping costs for my 1982 with case.

I will try to get some pictures early this week, and add an update message when I post them.
The hard shell case is solid, but shows some wear. Most notably, the glue under the ovation logo gave way years ago, and I no longer have the logo.

Now you tell me after I just bought a reissue!!!!
Mint and luckily here in Oz.

Good luck with the sale.

BTW you should remind the masses that this is the "John Lennon" Legend.

Sorry about the timing AJ, but I do hope you enjoy your reissue. Thanks for the heads up on the "John Lennon" Legend name. I must confess a little ignorance on this point.

I have seen several references in internet traffic indicating the model 1651 guitars from 1981-1982 were also known as the John Lennon Legend. Since my label says simply 1651 Legend, I wanted to be conservative in my claims. The Ovation website description of the Model 1651 (Legend Ltd) is:

Body Type: Deep Bowl
Top: Sitka Spruce AAA
Bracing: Ovation A
Scale Length: 25 1/4"
Fretboard: Ebony, Ivory Binding
Fret Inlay: 15 Pearl
Bridge: Walnut
Rosette:
Pickup: Piezoelectric
Nutwidth: 1 11/16"
Machines: 24k Gold Plated"

That description does match my guitar.

According to http://www.ovationgallery.com/page6string1651.htm

Lennon played a 1651-7. I do not see a reference to the -7 extension on the Ovation website or on my guitar. Please excuse my ignorance on that issue. If anyone can clear up my confusion on this point, it would be appreciated.

Although, I purchased my model 1651 in March of 1982, Ovation's website indicates serial numbers 214934-263633 as being from 1981. My serial number is 252531, so my 1651 must actually be a vintage 1981 instrument rather than 1982.

Should I ask the fo9rum leader to delete this post and start over to avoid confusing anyone?

David Witko cleared up the 1651v/s 1651-7 issue for me. This may be old hat to some of you...

Dave informed me that "The -7 refers to the top color (nutmeg)."

There was also a 1651-5, which had a black top. These instruments were A-braced versions of the regular Legend model.

Therefore, it is safe and accurate to say that my guitar is an original model 1651 Legend Limited, the same model that John Lennon is shown playing on his "Acoustic" CD (Compilation released in 2004)

I am sorry for the delay in capturing images. My day job ate a lot of time this week.

I have set-up a profile on the OFC companion social networking site. My public profile page has several nice images and a slide show of my model 1651-7 Legend Limited.

It looks like I am concluding a deal with a buyer in Sweden. He has been looking for an original 1651-7 for several years, so I do not feel quite so bad about having to sell it. My guitar is going into good hands, where it will be played.
